PostSubject: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Thu Jun 25, 2009 9:00 am

DO NOT POST UNTIL YOU HAVE CONFIRMED YOUR CHARACTER.

A long, long time ago, since the beginning of time, humans lived in a time of strife and terror. Strange, horrifying entities known as Shades scourged the land, killing and destroying all that crossed their path. With their limitless numbers, and seeming invulnerability to human inventions, humanity seemed doomed. This was until the discovery of the Book of Templaria, a mythical book containing the legendary scriptures and texts of magic. Found deep within an ancient library long before the dawn of man, the wizened book empowered humanity with the power of magical energy. With their newly found power, the leaders of humanity were able to vanquish the Shades and expel their filth and desecration from the physical world in a final effort.

However, during the final stages of the battle, the book was tainted. Dark energies had tapped into the book, corrupting it. The leaders of humanity took notice of the danger the book now possessed, and locked it away into the library from whence it came. The price was great, as it took their own lives and souls in the process. But in doing so, they protected the rest of the world from the inevitable remission of the dreaded Shades. Then a peace spread across the world, a peace humanity never knew. Magic still remained fresh in the blood of people, and this lineage of power continued to flow all the way until modern times. Which is where our story begins.

Efrin's legs move in perfect synch with each other. One bounding leg after the other. Breathe in, breathe out. Repeat. Normally, Efrin was never in a rush to do anything but do nothing. He admitted it: he was a lazy person. But today, Efrin had to run: and he was late for class. And being late for class on the first day of Spell Academy was never a good thing.

The Spell Schools were a wide variety of schools founded during the Age of Magic (circa. 800 A.D.-900 A.D.). Within these mystical schools of magic, students were supposedly learned in the countless methods of magic, and how they could put it too good use. Well, that's what modern propaganda always stated. But what the introduction pamphlet DIDN'T say was that these schools existed to limit the powers of children, or in the very worst cases, use them as outlets to vent out uncontrolled magic.

You see, almost everyone born today inherits the ability to wield magic. Modern children, however, have little to no control over their powers, and for most of their youth they are walking harbingers of destruction. Trinkets and charms that canceled certain forms of magic were made in an attempt to limit the childrens' power, but the products proved to be disastrous failures. In a last ditch effort, the adults of the magical world founded the Spell Schools, supposed schools of magic that taught children in the history and forms of magic.

One such of these Spell Schools is Templar Academy, one of the most infamous to date. One of the first Spell Schools to be founded, Templar Academy soon found itself the receiver of all the outcasts and "unhandleables" among the magical youth. As such, Templar Academy quickly became a vicious breeding ground for violence and destruction, with authorities barely able to keep the students under control.

Efrin continued running down the stone walkway. A huge stone wall had made itself visible along the sides of the walkway. That meant he was getting close. He picked up the pace and hurled himself down the sidewalk. It wasn't long before Efrin found himself at the Spell School's gates, which looked more like intimidating archways leading to an unpleasant place rather than the entrance to a school An iron wrought sign on the gates proclaimed:

TEMPLAR ACADEMY: SPELL SCHOOL
FOUNDED IN YEAR 800 BY THE PROUD ANTHONY THE GREAT

With little time to waste, Efrin shoved open the iron gates to let him pass and dashed into the main courtyard. Not too strangely, the courtyard was completely devoid of people. They're all in their classes by now, he thought, with a bitter taste in his mouth. He took a moment to examine the natural beauty of the courtyard before running through the school doors into the main hall. The interior of the Spell School was probably even more intimidating than its exterior: the walls seemed to be made of medieval stone, and the only illumination came from fake fire torches lining said walls. Well, they did say it was the oldest of these schools. Efrin took off the backpack and produced a piece of paper from it. His eyes scanned the poorly printed paper... then his eyes caught the important detail.

Room 204

That has to be where my first class is, he thought. Efrin ran down the deserted hallways. 200....201....202.... he counted, not paying any attention to where he was running. Suddenly, something appeared directly in front of him: Efrin tried to stop himself, but he smashed directly into someone.

"ACK!" Efrin tripped and fell straight onto something soft.

"Oof!" came the feminine-sounding reply. Papers scattered everywhere, littering the dirt-covered floor. Efrin pulled himself up and started rubbing his head: he'd hit something hard on his way down. As he opened his eyes to see who exactly he'd bumped into, his eyes widened in surprise.

"S-Serra!?!?" he choked. He couldn't believe it. "YOU'RE here?" He pointed a finger at the fragile-looking, long blonde-haired girl in front of him. At first she looked just surprised as he was, then she smiled.

"You could have just said sorry, Efrin. I never thought of you as a manner-less brute," Serra giggled. Efrin blushed.

"W-well, I-I w-was just, I-I..." Efrin spluttered, completely unable to make his words out. The girl gave him one of her signature grins and gave him a light punch on the shoulder.

"Take it easy, brute." she winked. Efrin's face turned even redder: he felt terribly embarrassed in front of her. He couldn't find the courage to say anything. The two stood there, an awkward silence building up between them.

"You'd better run off to class," Serra interrupted, starting to pick up the strewn papers all over the floor. "I just had to go run an errand for my teacher. You're almost 15 minutes late now!"

Efrin silently cursed. He started running towards the door labelled "Room 204."

"Nice meeting you," Efrin grinned, his hand closing in on the doorknob.

"You too, brute." Serra smiled, as she started off down the hallway with her stack of papers. Efrin took a deep breath, opened the door, and hoped for the best.

NEXT SCENARIO:

Other characters will appear in the classroom. This is where you other guys will come in.

[[ooc:: Intro post will be potentially monstrous. Granted permission by .sickling. to post, so here I go.]]

"And with the use of magic..." the teacher rambled on and on about things that Kaida already understood. She was a natural at magic, and she was sure that the teacher knew that. But every time she asked to be moved up a class, it was always the same excuse. She hadn't tried hard enough, and she wasn't putting forth enough power to demonstrate that she really had control. Kaida fiddled with her fingernails. She didn't understand what they were talking about, though a vast majority of what she did understand in life came from medicine and human anatomy. For example, there was the nerve in the average human's neck that if poked with a light amount of force, could potentially paralyze or kill a person. Then there was the fact that almost every human's kneecap could be popped out with eight pounds of force.

Of course, Kaida didn't ever use such things for combat. She was well respected in the school, if only because she had a reputation of being more than capable of defending herself despite her timid personality and affinity towards healing magics. Her aunt had taught her how before her parents had her sent off to the academy. Kaida yawned and once again ignored the teacher. He had been trying to teach the same thing for three days, but the people around her weren't able to control their magic to such a fine degree. Kaida rubbed her eyes to try and get the sleepiness out of them. Due to the lack of effort needed to actually do well in the class, Kaida had been up most of the previous night studying from various medical books she had stashed away in her room. One of her classmates (who, for good reason, was not on Kaida's list of relations) had left to run an errand for the teacher. Kaida half wondered why she hadn't volunteered herself.

It wasn't even twenty minutes into the lesson when the door opened. Kaida's sensitive ears caught the sound far before most others and her attention snapped over to the one that had opened the door as she tapped her pencil on her paper. It took less than three seconds for most everyone else's attention to fall on the boy as well. Kaida raised an elegant eyebrow and wondered exactly what the boy was doing. He was not only say...fifteen minutes late, but he wasn't exactly trying to be subtle and sneak into the class. The dark-haired one couldn't help but stare as well. Sure, intelligence wasn't hard to come across, but apparently common sense was. Kaida tapped her pencil a few times more against her desk and looked at the teacher. Great. The teacher was just as dumbfounded as the students. Quick to adapt, Kaida raised her hand calmly, waited for about two seconds, and then raised her voice to a suitable level afterwards. It reflected confidence and calculation, but there was that subtle trace of timidness that always seemed to invade everything that Kaida did.

"If I may..." she started speaking the language that everyone else spoke, but with a distinctive Shivarian accent. It was one of the languages that was usually attributed to either the well educated or the very refined. It tended to give Kaida the upper edge to a conversation and a way of speaking that made her seem strange. She spoke perfect Shivarian due to her father's careful raising, but her mother made sure that Kaida was capable of speaking at least two or three other languages apart from the primary language that everyone else seemed to speak. It made talking to patients easier. But that was beside the point. The point was that she was currently speaking to the teacher...or the class. "It is to my assumption that the fledgling with the uncertain countenance at the door is the...for lack of a better term...new student we were informed of."

No, she couldn't talk like a normal person. That would defeat the entire purpose of learning Shivarian. She couldn't afford to be looked down upon by anyone being a woman in the medical profession. Sure, she had healing magic and people naturally assumed women were better at that, but Kaida was more of a physical person with precise control of her magic. Most people didn't believe that. Having spoken her part, she let her voice die again. She was never good at doing personal stuff like...introductions. Of course, she had a lack of desire to get out of her seat for another reason as well. The fact that she was ridiculously tall was one reason, but she was also far too timid to go so far as to get out of her seat and attract everyone's attention. That was probably the main reason why she hadn't gone for a place of authority, though she did end up doing a good deal of work around the class simply because. The teacher seemed to snap out of his little stupor and got around to trying to wave the boy in the doorway in. Kaida noticed that he looked a bit worried and distressed, focused magic into her eyes and scanned him. It didn't look as though he had any internal or less-than-noticeable injuries according to the spread of muscle that the girl was seeing. She shut down the flow of magic.

'Intriguing...perhaps the fledgling worries about the tardiness? Though that possiblity is highly doubtful...there are hardly any students under reasonable control in this academic facility...' the thought whirred into Kaida's head as she kept her attention on the boy. It was logical to assume that nobody would know who he was, but the class wasn't exactly small, so there was always a slight chance. The dark-haired girl laced her fingers together and supported her head on the intertwined digits. She didn't plan on making any relations with the boy. She was a doctor, and all reason stated that a doctor would be less than capable of treating someone that was of close relation to him or herself. That was the reason why Kaida had made none.

Of course, being late on the first day had to mean something. Kaida's calculating mind told her that the boy was either reckless or easily dazed and distracted. That meant that she was probably going to end up treating his wounds more than once, as experience had taught her. The dark-haired girl closed her magenta-hued eyes and released a soft sigh. She wasn't particularly interested in the lesson, but she did want to know where the boy would be assigned to sit. After all, there were empty seats in places all around her. People always assumed that Kaida did something to them, but they were wrong. The girl wasn't the kind to strike first. They had simply preferred not to sit next to the smart girl who would make them seem less intelligent than they really were. Kaida made a small t'ch sound while grinding her teeth a little and muttering a single-word insult under her breath at the thought. "Simpletons..."

It was the cold puddle of drool that awoke Mako from his deep, mid-class nap, not the newcomer that had arrived even later than he. Mako was indifferent to the new kid as the only thing he wished to do was to finish outfitting his room which was cleverly hidden as the second supply closet. (How the school janitor did not know is amazing.) his room as designed as such so that he did not have to technically pay room and board. However, he still kept the money like a miser and use his affinity with electricity to obtain free packs of noodles and "space-Juice" [Creator's Note: A drink that would normally heal 30 sp] He tapped a D cell on his desk impatiently as he waited for the student to introduce himself.

tina had been twirling her pencil in her hand when the late kid came in. she looked up, smiling at him sympathetically. good luck getting here earlier, her black lipstick smile said. she stopped smiling when she realized her smile could've looked sacrastic rather then helpful. the teacher started droning again as soon as the late kid sat down. "If i may, it is to my assumption that the fledgling with the uncertain countenance at the door is the...for lack of a better term...new student we were informed of." kaida said.

Tina rolled her eyes. "can't you just say 'the new kid is the late kid'?" she whispered, fully aware that the fancy girl could hear her with her heightened senses and everything. it was like she purposely looked down on people. or maybe tina just didn't want to bother to know kaida. either way, she didn't seem like the most approchable person. tina had even tried talking to kaida, but since she sounded like something out of shakespeare or something, tina felt like kiada was trying to mock her, so she stayed aaway from her from then on.

unconciously she and almost accidently she had built that image of a holier-than-thou kaida, which she knew wasn't true. yet she never tried to break that image down, and she felt guilty about it.
mako, she had also created this fictional picture of. everyone she knew she had created this fictional picture of. it was probably her fatal flaw. oh yeah. the word was prejudice. she hated doing it, but she couldn't help it.

probably the reason why she tried smiling at the new kid.
huh.

ooc:i was doing this while watching wipeout and i survived a japanese gameshow, so if it makes little sense, that's why... ^^;

Mako let out a sigh and said, "Get on with it already!" With an intesne air of impatience. He was already sick of waiting for the new kid and had already become annoyed by the "Ms. Shakespeare in the room."

OOC: Sorry VVO, But we use modern colloquialisms, though there is magic. Which is why batteries and single desks, and dormitories, and janitors exist. (Just getting that taken care of ASAP so you don't have the unfortunate task of sounding like an avid "Ye-Olde English" speaker...)

Efrin's face turned a violent scarlet as he tried to make himself as small as possible. With about a thousand eyes staring at him, he certainly didn't feel very comfortable. He scurried to the only empty desk in the room and quickly took a seat in it.

"It is to my assumption that the fledgling with the uncertain countenance at the door is the...for lack of a better term...new student we were informed of." Efrin nervously edged around in his seat. The metal chair was absolutely painful to sit it: it was as if they TRIED to make it as un-ergonomic as possible. He felt his skin prickle as sweat dripped down his forehead.

"S-s-sorry I'm late," Efrin stuttered. The teacher only gave him a fierce glare and resumed writing on the blackboard. The teacher didn't seem very old, in fact, she looked more like a recent Spell School graduate. Her face showed no signs of youth and her teacher's uniform was prim and completely unwrinkled at all. Her bright orange hair was tied back into a long ponytail that went down to her waist, which actually wasn't that long considering how short she was. Efrin figured he would tower over her...

A sudden whap on the back of Efrin's head spurred him from his thought. He grunted a little, then turned around to greet his assailant.

"Wait, stop eying the teacher, fool," the boy whispered. His eyebrow length hair was jet-black, blacker than the night-sky, as was his eyes. His face was a strange combination of narrow and round, something Efrin couldn't really describe perfectly. His skin was also rather pale: an obvious sign that this person didn't get much outside time.

"I wasn't eying the teacher," Efrin protested.

"It's for your own good. She kills people that're late, and if she catches you ogling her I don't even want to know what's going to be left of you." The black-haired boy gave a little scowl before getting back into his seat.

"By the way, the name's Miro. You?"

"Efrin."

"Well, Efrin, you'd better get used to things here. And fast. Wait, real fast." Miro said.

"And how would I do that?"

"Let me tell you about the people here." Miro pointed to the black haired boy with the blue highlights across the room.

"That's Mako. Watch out for him, he's not nice to newbies."

"Okay."

Miro then pointed to the pink-eyed girl all the way in the back of the room, who was eagerly taking notes on a piece of paper. She paid no attention to the two.

"That's Kaida. She's a friendly, but she might not rub off too well the first time. She's totally cool, just don't let her get to you." Efrin recognized her as the girl with the excessively eloquent speech. He already felt a slight distaste for Kaida...

"And that," Miro struck a finger at the violet-haired girl, "Is Tina. Don't comment her height: she'll eat you inside and out." He gave a little chuckle. All of a sudden, the class bell sounded out the loudest clang Efrin had ever heard in his life. Miro quickly turned away and jumped out of his seat.

"See you around, sometime." With that, he walked out the door before anyone had even gotten out of their seat.

[[ooc:: Yeah, I know they talk normally. I just needed to give Kaida her personality quirk which makes her NOT talk normally. >:'D]]

The whispers were aggravating at times, really. Kaida ignored them to the best of her ability and continued to do what appeared to be notes. It was really just a simple memory exercise done in a blank corner. The basic outline of a human body with the textbook locations of various intestines and organs. Magenta-hued eyes softened a bit as her mind wandered to the white-walled rooms of an infirmary or a hospital. That was one of the few places she could drop the facade she'd put on and actually help out without being afraid. Patients were the only people she had to deal with there. Patients that didn't care whether she talked in big fancy words because she was there to help. In an ideal world, those patients wouldn't exist and Kaida would be normal, but that would mean that there was no injury or sickness in the world.

Too bad that couldn't happen.

Ignoring a loud urge to hurry the newbie along from--oh what was his name...Mako...? That seemed right--Kaida found that she was less than interested in talking again. She doubted the teacher was in a good mood, after all. Her ears caught onto a familiar person's voice. Normally, Kaida didn't bother to learn people's names since they didn't like talking to her, but Miro? For him, she had to make an exception. Not that they were close, and not that she held any for of admiration. He'd just dealt with her Shivarian speaking manners quite well and hadn't quite thrown any chance of friendship out the window yet. Kaida found that a bit interesting. It wasn't long before a harsh clanging sound reached her ears. Kaida closed her eyes and carefully placed her fingers onto her temple. They needed to get that bell replaced some day.

Carefully putting everything away, Kaida yawned and rubbed her eyes again. She was still exhausted, but there was work to be done. From the customary check over of the new student (which Kaida had been doing in secret to every student since her arrival), the build of his muscles practically screamed "swordsman" at her much like some people had screamed "couch potato" at the same time. The girl had found that a little on the unnerving side. If her powers of observation weren't off, there would be so many injuries she might have to deal with. That, of course, made showing the boy the health office a priority. The girl got up from her desk, picked up her lab coat (which earned many stares), and threw it over her shoulders before walking to the new kid's desk. There was a pause as she stood, looking at him through magenta-hued eyes and restraining the timid side of her actions as best she could.

"I assume Miro has already granted you a customary analysis of my character," the girl stated. That only meant she wouldn't be giving introductions. "From the structure of your muscles, I assume you have skill with a sword. It would be beneficial to learn the location of the infirmary for future reference." And then the girl started to leave as if that was all she had walked over to do. She was going to head over to the health offices herself to do checks on everyone she could, but first...the dark-haired girl stopped and turned her head back to the boy. "...and...your right wrist is showing signs of developing necrosis. Do prevent yourself from applying all your weight to it for extended periods of time."

Turning away from the boy, Kaida left the room with her hands in her pockets without so much as another word. Kids were always doing stupid things during break.

[[ooc:: Necrosis is very common, and it really won't do anything sooo...yeah...>_>]]

after class, tina found kaida outside of the classroom, using her fancy talk again on the poor new kid. she walked up to him, and grinned her not-purposely-sarcastic smile. "hey. i'm tina. welcome to torture," she tried to manage an actually convincing smile, once again failing. "listen. kaida can probably hear me right now, but if she bothers you, it might be best to ignore her. no wait, scratch that. ignore her way of talking. it was like something her parents put her through or something."

tina sighed, trying to find something to talk to. "hey, you need someone to hang out with during break, i'm usually in the library," tina looked up to grin to efrin. why was everyone taller then her? it was almost unfair. "oh, and if someone teases you, i'll beat them up for ya too," tina grinned evilly.

"hey, i need to go to my locker. wanna stalk me?" tina asked, then started walking backwards (a skill which she had perfected over the years so well that she could do it without bumping into people) towards the direction of her locker. she stopped. "you don't need to follow me, it's just in case you need someone to talk to," tina smiled.

huh. it's suprisingly easier to talk to him, compared to other kids, tina noted. maybe it was her motivation to try to get a friend in the first place. it could've also been her talking to the librarians more. whatever, either way it's gotten you to be a lot more social, she said to herself.

Mako ran as fast as he could, through the dorm lobby, up the stairs, down the hall, and into the first supply closet. He had only 4, maybe 5 minutes to finish the wiring for his "Base"
"Let's see, blue to green, red to magenta, yellow to blue...Alright! Lets get thid baby up and running!" He gripped the metal bar that was connected by wires to the main fuse box he "Borrowed" and proceeded to channel electricity into it. The wires buzzed, the lights in the room slowly lit up and then....
It fizzled and died. "ACK! M-" Everyone wondered her the 30 second long string of profanities arose from for his room was not sound proof. After his rage had subsided, he slipped out of his room and trudged straight to the vending machine for some more Space-Juice.

Efrin gave a low sigh as he watched the everyone take their leave and exit the room in a manner that more resembled a horde of rhinos than a group of kids. He'd just barely gotten inside the room before class had ended. Was he really that late? How much could he possibly have missed? Suddenly, he found the Kaida girl talking to him, her sharp pink eyes staring seeming to pierce him through.

"Your right wrist is developing signs of necrosis," she began, rather lazily. Her condescending manner was rather irksome, but Efrin kept himself in check.

"And," he replied, "Would you be so kind to tell me what this necrosis is?" Whatever it was, it sounded bad. Hopefully it wasn't life threatening? A cold sweat dripped down the side of his head, but he quickly wiped it away.

"Do prevent yourself from applying weight to it for extended periods of time," the girl seemed to ignore him. Efrin started after her, but soon found that she was already out the door.

Then he realized that the entire room was empty. Grudgingly, he climbed out of the painful chair and made his way through the web of desks. The room looked more like a dungeon, with all the metal, sharp corners, and relative lack of illumination. Efrin felt a sense of relief as he pushed the door open and walked outside.

He wasn't prepared for what he would meet. Outside the classroom, was utter chaos. The ambiance was deafening, filled with the shouts and screams of students running to and fro the hallway. Adults were making their way around, trying to keep everyone and everything in check, but they were just as effective as a single beetle to a fire ant's hill. Some sides of the wall were on fire. A pair of students were dueling viciously with swords and blades. Bolts of lightning and ice flew down the hall. What the hell is going on? he thought, his mind racing with panic. Making away across this mayhem in one piece seemed utterly impossible. Efrin's eyes darted around, looking for an area of some semblance of peace.

Suddenly, out of the corner of eye, he sensed movement. Efrin slammed his back to the wall, fearing a surprise attack. Instead, all he found was the short girl, Tina, with a bright smile on her face.

"Hey. I'm tina. Welcome to torture," she giggled. What surprised him the most was her complete ignorance to the chaos around her. Even with all the fireballs exploding around her and sparks flying, in all chaos she managed to remain calm.

"Listen. Kaida can probably hear me right now, but if she bothers you, it might be best to ignore her. No wait, scratch that. Ignore her way of talking. It was like something her parents put her through or something." she said, smoothly.

"Yeah, I noticed." Kaida still got on his nerves, however, and his eyes were still darting around the room to see if someone was going to try and impale him.

"Hey, you need someone to hang out with during break, I'm usually in the library," Tina continued, her eyes drifting off to an unknown corner.

"Oh, and if someone teases you, i'll beat them up for ya too,"

"That sounds like a lot of help."

"Hey, I need to go to my locker. Wanna stalk me?" Efrin really saw no other choice. He could follow her and possibly survive, or be sliced to folds of meat in this insane bloodbath. He responded with a curt nod.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mliro swiftly dodged the inexperienced blows, responding with a smashing blow to the face with his magical spear, the Jihatzu-Komo. He took care not to use the cutting edge: he didn't want to spill any blood. Nevertheless, his assailant was still unable to avoid the crushing blow and crumpled to the floor, blood trickling from his nose. Miro stared a little at the motionless body, then gave a sigh of relief. He hated fighting, but it was necessary in this damned Spell School. The black-haired boy was just about to depart the scene when a group of gruff-looking people stood defiantly before him.
"HEY, you there," the leader spoke. He was bald, and had a rather disgusting-looking mustache that spread all the way across to his ears. There was an overwhelming aura of stupidity floating around the brute.
Miro sighed. "Wait, what do you want?" Suddenly, the man brandished a vicious-looking knife and pointed it straight at Miro's face.
"How about you hand over that shiny spear of yours," the student grinned, revealing a set of horribly rotten, yellow teeth.
"Over my freaking dead body, you twat." Miro swiftly kicked the knife out of the student's hand: a surprised expression spread across the thug's face, before the black-haired warrior followed up with a blast of wind to the stomach. The student grunted as he was thrown across the room, smashing into the wall: which was 10 yards away. His followers looked back at their leader's lifeless body, then looked back at Miro with shocked faces. One of them inched backwards, before turning tail and dashing off completely. The others soon followed.
"Thank goodness," Miro sighed. He placed the Jihatzu-Komo on his back and walked down the now deserted corridor. It wasn't long before he found the center of the chaos, the main hallway. The main hallway was always filled with random battles and the whatnot: why, Miro never knew. Suddenly, his eyes caught the sight of a familiar student: the newcomer. He was walking with Tina, probably off to the library or something.
"Hey! Efrin!" Miro called out, running towards the two. Efrin took notice of the black-haired figure running toward him, jumped a little, then settled back down again after realizing who it was. Miro cocked his head at Efrin's sudden display of facial expressions.
"I see you're getting along well with Tina," Miro grinned. "Maybe you two will get along, if you know what I mean, heh." Efrin's laughed.
"Nah, I don't plan on doing anything like that," he raised his eyebrows to emphasize, "anytime soon."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Miro quickly turned out to be a good person to hang out with. In the few minutes they had walked down the Hallway of Doom, as Efrin had put it, Miro proved himself to be a rather talkative chap.

"Yeah, and then-" Efrin started, in response to a statement about cupcakes, before he caught sight of a white-haired girl being harassed by a group of students. Almost instantly, he realized it as Serra.

"Hey, cutie, why don't you give us some sugar," the first thug grinned, hands edging toward Serra's hair.

"Ugh, you disgust me!" Serra shouted, slapping his hand away.

"Oooh, I like them fiesty. Hey, Polo, restrain her!" The other student quickly nodded, before grabbing the girl's arms and holding them behind her back. She tried struggling, but Polo proved to be far too strong.

"Hahaha, look at her squirm," Polo grinned, absorbing an elbow to the stomach. The other thug started to tear off her shirt with reckless abandon, and Serra screamed.

"LET HER GO!" Efrin shouted, unable to watch the abuse of his childhood friend any longer. He unsheathed the Ragnas, his trusted longsword, and brandished it before the thugs.

Both of them stopped and gave a furtive glance at the person who was pointing a giant sword at their faces.

"Hey, looks like this guy wants a fight," Polo grinned, throwing Serra to the ground. She gasped as she unceremoniously hit the floor, but she quickly climbed to her feet and ran towards Efrin. [i]Thank you,[/i she whispered, her voice shaky.

"If it's a fight you want," the first thug said, taking out a small knife.

"It's a fight you'll get!" Polo cackled. He took out a sword with comparable length to Efrin's, and smiled wickedly.

"You'll pay for what you did to her," Efrin roared, dashing into the two.

OOC: Originally, the planning was to have the player meet and recruit Mako at the Vending machine. (Where the player gets their initial sp items.) Whic is exactly why most of my posts until the fight with me will not relate to the story until later in the RP

tina heard a scream. instantly she turned to see serra being... tina frowned. oh how she wished there was another word for 'bullied'. tina raced next to Efrin and jumped on one of the kids who thought he was a gangster. she sent him sprawling, and she promptly put her knee to his lower back, and started beating him up. "YOU PIECE OF TRASH! I OUTTA TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF AND PUT IT ON A PLAQUE AND PUT IT ON A WALL!" she screamed. "MOLESTER! HENTAI! PERVERT! FAILURE GANGSTER! PEDOFILE! AL CAPONE WANNABE!" with each insult she pulled his head up by his hair, smashing his head back into the ground. even amoung the other chaos, people would stop and stare for a moment at the tiny girl beating a boy up that was at least twice her size.

"STUPID FOOLISH IGNORANT BOY! YOU DARE TRY TO HURT A WOMAN IN MY PRESENSE?! I THINK NOT!" the line that she had read from one of her favorite books slipped from her lips as she continued to smash the boy's head into the ground and ramming her knee into his lower back even deeper. "IF YOU STAY ALIVE AND YOU DO THIS AGAIN I WILL SKIN YOU ALIVE AND SLOW COOK YOUR FLESH!"

whoa, where did that come from? tina asked herself as she continually beat the boy to pieces.

PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Sun Jul 12, 2009 11:05 pm

She was getting diverted from her ultimate destination every twenty steps she took, or at least, it certainly seemed that way. From the class to about half-way down the hall she had used temporary aid on about seven burn wounds from random fireballs, done CPR on one person whose heart had stopped, and had used up about half of the bandages she's brought in case they were needed. The chaos just got worse and worse, but Kaida knew she would end up restocking on supplies when she got to the infirmary. If she got to the infirmary.

The girl turned a corner, planning to take a short detour. Sadly, things couldn't go the way she planned, and Kaida's attention was instantly grabbed by a loud scream. Her body reacted in an instant, and Kaida dashed towards the sound. More shouts, the sound of flesh on stone. The girl winced internally. That was not going to be pretty to come across. The figures came into view, and then Kaida realized what was going on. It was...for lack of a better term...a hissy fight. Probably stemmed from some attempt for sensual pleasure from the light-haired girl who was at that moment keeping her shirt together as best she could. Upon closer inspection, Kaida recognized the participants (or, a majority of them) as her fellow classmates. She slowed her pace a bit, stripped herself of the labcoat, and calmly walked towards the scene, offering her coat to the light-haired girl (what was her name...Serra...?) while checking over everyone with her magic-enforced eyes.

The only one that looked physically injured was the one who was obviously injured. Kaida sighed softly to herself, ignored the shrieking mass that was Tina for a moment, and then regained her chilly composure, crossing her arms and giving the "are you really doing this?" expression on her face. It was something her mother had taught her to master when she was younger that every doctor seemed to have the ability to pull off. It was the expression that one didn't try to wipe off another's face. Of course, the expression and actions her uncle taught her...Kaida wiped that thought from her mind without a notable change in her facial expression.

"Causing an injury of this volume in the hall...? Not beyond reason for this facility, however, it was to my knowledge that one of your intelligence should be above such actions..." Kaida called coldly from her place. She promptly moved before the fight and gave the most piercing look she could at the fighters in turn. "It appears that perhaps I have been proven to be hasty in my judgment..." And though she was certain that someone was going to want to rip her head off, she gave the best "I'm your doctor so you'd better listen to me" tone and expression while directing her next words to the smaller girl that was attacking the original offender. "I would suggest you vacate that location as to allow treatment..." the tips of Kaida's fingers began to glow a light blue-green as she continued her words, slipping into her uncle's speech patterns before she realized it. He always spoke in that honeyed-venom tone when it dealt with those that caused injury. "Unless...you believe you need treatment instead...?"

Yes, all her mannerisms were practically engraved into her mind by her parents and her close relatives. Pride, dignity, gentleness, sympathy...normal qualities for a doctor. Her uncle had thrown the lovely motto of "If they get in the way, threaten them and they'll get out of the way!" into the mix though, and so Kaida picked that up. She held her cold expression as best she could, though at that moment, the doctor really just wanted to kneel down and try getting rid of all the nasty abrasions and bruises that marred the boy's face.

Efrin gave a sharp glare to Kaida, then cursed silently as he watched the little imp of a student scurry off to whoever knows where. Oh, how he wanted to rip that guy apart limb by limb, cleaving his head in two... he slipped Ragnas back onto his back and approached the "doctor girl."

"Why the hell were you defending them?" Efrin growled, his voice a near-shout. The fire inside him blazed as if it had just been fed gasoline. "Didn't you see what they were doing to her?!?!"

"Never mind, I don't want to listen to your dictionary of a mouth," Efrin's tone was vicious as he stomped off down the hallway. Serra's eyes turned wet with compassion as she reached out for him, but Miro softly put her arm down.
There are some things that need to simmer off, he spoke, turning his eyes toward Kaida and the others. Serra nodded in understanding, her white hair flowing as she moved. The hallway had turned eerily empty and quiet: the noise of screams and battle-cries had subsided, and fireballs were no longer hurtling down the corridor. Only the sight of a student couple giggling down the walkway convinced him that the school wasn't entirely empty. Miro brushed the hair out of his eyes.

"I don't know what you were getting at back there," Miro sighed, turning away from Kaida. "I just hope you think it's the right thing." He started walking in Efrin's direction, knowing he would have to face the explosiveness of a dark temper.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Efrin slammed his hand into the wall. His hand erupted in pain, but his rage completely blotted it out.
"GODDAMMIT, I hate that girl," he spat. "Thinking she's so -cool- and all with the way she talks," Efrin's fists clenched into tight balls.
"Out of my way," He ruthlessly shoved a student out of his path. The boy hit the floor from the force of it, but quickly scrambled away, as if to avoid further punishment. Efrin glared at the student. It reminded him all too much of that thug. The one that did that to Serra.
"Efrin." He heard a voice behind him. Efrin quickly shot a glance behind him. It was Miro.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well-"
"Get the hell away from me. I don't want your sympathies." Efrin threw a condescending arm behind him and stormed off. Miro sighed: this would be harder than he thought.
"Hey, look, I know that girl there was your friend, and that what they did was by no means right-"
"And?"
Miro sighed again. "Well, just know this. Attitude like this isn't going to get you anywhere in Templar. You're just going to get yourself hurt, or maybe even killed if you keep acting like this."
Efrin still didn't completely believe him, mostly due to the dark looks he was still shooting at him.
"Just let it go."
"Don't tell me what to do, windbag." Efrin spat.
"Hey, there's no need to get offensive."
Efrin rolled his eyes. Miro sighed yet again. He pulled out the Jihatzu-Komo, and grasped it with both hands.
"Perhaps a little sparring will blow off some steam? I've been dying to figure out how you fight."
Efrin raised his eye a little. In response, he unsheathed the Ragnas and pointed it at Miro.
"Whenever you're ready." Suddenly, he felt a gust of wind and he saw Miro's face in front of him.
"Hah, don't you know," Miro whispered into his ear. Efrin felt the hard wood of a staff smash into his face. "I'm always ready?" Miro grinned as Efrin shuddered from the blow. He rammed the Jihatzu-Komo into the ground and leaped onto it. Efrin scowled, and wiped off his face. There wasn't any damage, but damn, that hurt.
"Show-off."
"So you noticed? Come on, big guy," Miro taunted, standing on top of the spear while making a little hand gesture. Efrin couldn't manage to suppress a smile, and with that, Miro knew that he'd succeeded.
"Don't regret what you wished for!" Efrin roared as he leapt toward Miro and brought the Ragnas back for a blow against the spear. Miro was too fast: as he saw it coming, he drove the spear out of the ground and performed a backflip, the Jihatzu-Komo wedged between his feet as the blade sliced through a couple of Efrin's hairs. Efrin jumped back, shocked. He'd only recovered when Miro landed perfectly on both feet, bending into a deep bow.
"Thank you, thank you." Miro called, imitating a performer in front of a fake audience. Efrin grinned. His anger had completely left him.
"You're too good," Efrin replied, putting his sword back onto his back.
"EH? But we just got started?" Miro called back, a look of mock surprise spread all across his face. Suddenly, the shrill shriek of the school bell filled the air. There was an overwhelming scuffling of footsteps.
"I think we should start heading back," Efrin shouted as he dashed towards Miro's direction. Miro started walking back towards the others.
"you think you're so good since you're a doctor and all, don't you?" tina muttered to herself as she left the fight. "you knew what they were doing yet you healed them anyways. what a great way to punish a sexual molester."
she eventually reached her locker and grabbed her summoning books and her next class' text books. she stopped and flipped through her summoning books, letting the flood of words wash away part of her anger. tina still had yet to achieve the level to summon mythological animals. sure, she was able to summon small ones like baby sirens, baby griffins, and baby sphinxes (the sphinx babies were her favorite), but no grown ones. once she had summoned an adolescent fire demon, but was too tired to order it around, and it disappeared just when she fell asleep from exhaustion.
the bell rung. tina almost jumped, then quickly gathered her stuff, slammed the locker door, and rushed to her next class. this was going to be a very, very long day.
As if she needed lectures about justice thrown in her face. Kaida watched as the boy scampered away and she let the magic drop from her fingers, ignored the others as they scolded and berated her for things they wouldn't have been able to understand. Having already grown used to such lectures, Kaida learned how to take the hurt and hide it behind a mask of indifference. In all actuality, it stung. A lot. She could have snapped and shouted at them, told them to shut up and try to be more open minded. That their idea of justice wasn't absolute. That their complex programming of moral issues were too complicated to be practical. Kaida knew she could have put their little tirades to shame with one that had been bottled up inside her chest for so long...but she said nothing. They already made their strike and were retreating, like cowards, too ignorant to listen to any retort that might prove that they were the ones that were wrong.
Bah. It was normal. Human nature made people never want to be wrong. Kaida was included in that, but she never said anything. The girl took consideration to Miro's statement without showing it on her face, but already knew that he wouldn't listen to her. People never wanted to listen to the doctors. Probably because so many of them were hypocrites. After a few moments of silence, Kaida moved as if she were unaffected by the verbal attacks. Her mind was in a turmoil. She didn't know whether to feel angry, spiteful, hurt...what? How did someone react to something like that? The girl pushed her way to the infirmary and stayed there for the rest of the break, doing exactly what she was programmed to do. Treat the patients with blunt-yet-gentle honesty. It was everything she had learned since before she could even pronounce her name properly.
"Hmph...what a shameful place this world has become..." Kaida mumbled softly to herself while bandaging up another patient. Just as she finished, the bell shrieked in her ears. Kaida took a few extra moments to clean up what mess she had left behind, thanked the only adult in the infirmary for allowing her to use the supplies to further her training, and then stalked off towards the classroom. She already knew that there would be glares on her, but as long as she composed herself before she walked in, Kaida was certain she could take the animosity that was aimed at her. Her gait was a little different from before. Still disguised with confidence, still long and proud...but different. She turned the corner and wondered if they knew what they were doing was "right" or not. If they were so confident that their actions were driven by morals and not emotion. She dodged a running mob that looked as though their class was on the other side of the campus.
What did they know about her? It wasn't as though they'd ever seen what could only be called the "real" Kaida. The doctor turned the last corner, and calmly walked down the last hallway that would lead to the classroom, her eyes cold and distracted. She mumbled something softly to herself as she neared the class, fairly certain that even if someone was walking by, they wouldn't be able to hear the statement clearly. "If it were possible to abandon this facade...perhaps..."
Miro had broken into a full run: the minutes were ticking by. Efrin followed closely behind. Further down the hallway, a monstrous horde of students were rushing down the hallway, a little bit too eager to get to their classes. Miro and Efrin both slipped in through the mob of stampeding students, narrowly dodging the stomping feet and flailing hands and other extremities that happened to be flying about. Efrin felt rather uncomfortable with so many people around him: he was a little afraid he might poke someone with the Ragnas. He tried lightly pushing people out of the way, but he was responded with shoves and shouts. Efrin frowned, looking at Miro. Miro acted as though he'd been through this ordeal a thousand times. He walked through the throngs as if they were no more than puddles of water.
Eventually, the two managed to squeeze through the door, and into the open space of the classroom. Efrin took a huge sigh and collapsed into the nearest chair, exhausted. The sword made a little clang on the desk as he landed. Miro stood beside Efrin, his gaze set on the door. It wasn't long before the rest of the class poured through the opening like a swarm of ants back to their anthill, crawling over everything and everywhere just to get to where they needed to be. Efrin lazily leaned his head toward the source of all the noise. Through the masses of people, he managed to spot Polo and his thug friend. Immediately, his eyes narrowed, and anger flared inside him. Miro noticed Efrin's sudden change in expression.
"No, it's not good to start fights in here," Miro explained. "Not when the teacher is nearby."
Sure enough, the orange-haired woman strode into the class, and all was silent. Even Miro seemed to perk up in her presence. He quickly took a seat and shot a nervous glance toward him, before turning his attention back to the teacher. The woman continued down the now-eerily quiet classroom until she reached the massive desk at the end of the room. Seemingly out of nowhere, she produced a gigantic book, grabbed it with both hands, and slammed it with a deafening crash into the metallic desk.
"Class," she called, her voice a near roar, "I have heard from a reliable source," there was a snicker somewhere in the classroom. The teacher didn't notice, but Efrin quickly realized it as the snobby voice of Polo. He gritted his teeth. "That there is a sexual offender in this room."
A sudden rush of gasps made their way across the room. Suddenly, the entire class was talking.
"Sexual what?"
"I wonder who it could be?"
"HIm, maybe?"
Whispers ran rampant, and there was a lot of finger-pointing. There was a magnificent slam as the teacher smashed the book into the desk, and all was silent again.
"Miro Folonon," she called, "please come to the front of the classroom." Efrin looked at the black-haired boy in disbelief.
"Y-yes, ma'am." A shocked expression had made its way across his face. Slowly and reluctantly, the black-haired boy edged out of his seat and slowly walked towards the front of the room. As he passed by the other students, the whispers grew in volume and intensity, until the entire classroom was filled with them. Efrin noticed the profuse sweat dripping down Miro's neck.
"Miro," the orange-haired instructor called, just as he reached her desk.
"Yes?"
"Have you harassed," the teacher seemed to put as much discontent and emphasis on the word harassed.
"the following student: Serra Novelia?"
"No, ma'am." Surprisingly, Miro's voice was calm. Well, calm enough. As much as Efrin wanted to leap out of his seat and plead Miro's innocence, something in his gut forced him back into his seat.
"Are you contradicting me, Miro?" Now, the teacher's voice was harsh and unforgiving. She had tied Miro into a tight noose: another snicker escaped Polo's disgusting little mouth.
"You know what the punishment for sexual harassment is." She rapped her fingers on the thick pages of the book. This wasn't looking good...
Kaida was the kind of person who wasn't easily intimidated, which was why she was unpleasantly surprised when she'd first arrived by the teacher. The woman was scary. She had managed to make her way back to her normal seat before the huge rush and was ignored for the most part by just about everyone in the class. Her eyes fell onto the boy she'd treated earlier for facial wounds. She huffed and turned her attention away, and when the teacher walked into the class, all fell silent. Peace at last...
...not.
A roaring voice jerked Kaida to reality and she shot up straight in her desk, her heart pounding a bit. Kaida's ears were ringing from the surprise, and she could only hear the whispers threatening to swallow her whole. The girl glanced about, confused, and then it happened. The teacher called Miro up, and Kaida realized then what was going on. She hesitated for a moment. There were more whispers and the tension was starting to escalate. Her ears were ringing. She could hear everyone's words clearly. They were giggling, disgusted...and a familiar voice was snickering at the poor boy's plight.
"You know what the punishment for sexual harassment is..." the teacher claimed. The whispers escalated again. Kaida squeezed her eyes shut and tried to block everything out. She should probably say something, but then again the others that had been around would have done something, right? But nobody stood up for the innocent. Kaida didn't plan on getting involved. The last thing she needed was more trouble. She concentrated on shutting out the sounds of whispers and snickers of the room. They were all so judgmental, they all assumed that the teacher was right.
A resounding bang resounded through the room and Kaida's eyes snapped open, cold and filled with irritation. Her hand was on the table, balled into a fist. Somehow, she knew this wasn't going to come out well. She could feel all the eyes staring at her, confused at how the usually level-headed girl was acting. Heck, Kaida was surprised at herself. Why was she getting herself in trouble? All the whispers had stopped at that point. The girl formed her next words with such severe chilliness that most people would have backed down without even thinking. "It would be best to silence yourselves and keep accusations to a mental level before gaining factual information."
The girl closed her eyes and kept the mask of irritation locked onto her face. People were so annoying at times. She could practically feel the teacher's irritation wrapping its long heated fingers around her throat. Kaida gathered her courage and opened her eyes again before continuing. "Miro's course of action in such a situation was likely more admirable morally to you than my own. I took it upon myself to apply treatment to the offender, but he escaped before the treatment was complete." She let her gaze drop slightly towards the true criminal, her eyes hardened. She didn't have compassion for him as a person, but as a patient...well, that was a different story.
She uncurled her fist and started tapping lightly at the table and gave a soft exhalation of breath. "I'm certain said offender was anything but aware that my treatments are only temporary, and incomplete treatments hold for only a few minutes..." she caught a sharp inhalation of breath. Now the boy was worried. She let the honeyed-venom quality that had crept into her voice in the hallways take over her voice again. A cold smile played across her lips as she counted down. Seven. Six. Five. The boy was starting to scratch at his face. Four. Three. Two. He winced, but hid it as a yawn. Pain was starting to return. One. Kaida spoke in her honeyed-venom tone while turning her attention away. "An incomplete treatment applied then should, by all logic, be fading at this point. Surely you do not see any mysterious wounds appearing on Miro's countenance...?"
Yeah. Kaida knew how to make people suffer. There was a yowl as a boy moved his hands to his face, burning and crushing sensations should have been plentiful. Kaida pretended to give a bored yawn to hide the satisfied smile that was about to grace her face at the sound. True, she had taken a vow to treat anyone and everyone with the patient's well-being in mind, but the boy had run, and it was not in her vow to treat patients gently. She tapped her fingers against her desk again. Numbing the pain made it much worse when it returned...a smile crossed her lips. She was oddly...satisfied. Now, hopefully the teacher wouldn't gnaw off her face for speaking out of turn and objecting against the authority of an elder.
tina breathed a sigh of relief as the offender screamed in pain. perhaps kaida was human after all. as tina's opion on kaida was reevaluated a little, tina allowed herself a smile knowing that she had helped cause some of the pain in the first place. burn, baby, burn,her mind quoted from yet another book.
the teacher looked around, as red as a tomato, and sent miro back to his seat. the sexual harasser (sp) stood next to his seat, squirming in pain. tina looked down into her summons book to hide her evil grin. "burn, baby, burn," tina whispered.
ooc:ugh the shortness bothers me but i need to finish my work and junk ;A; sorry guys!
[[ooc QUICK RP CPR! -expects post to be short-]]
Kaida was well aware that the whispers in the class were revolving around her, Miro, and the crime that had happened during the break. She was well aware that the rumors would start spreading like wildfire. That people would ask her if she liked Miro in that way for defending him and breaking her usual cool, level-headed personality to prove his innocence, and she would have to patiently bear with them as she stamped them out. The magenta-eyed girl was anything but pleased with what she had gotten herself in, but wasn't about to admit that to anyone. Instead, she just ignored the buzzing whispers in the class.
It was the teacher she was worried about. True, the orange-haired woman hadn't said anything yet, but Kaida could feel the sharp gaze of the older woman placed onto her every so often when her head was turned down as her hand carelessly scrawled notes onto her paper. She was going to be in so much trouble for causing a commotion. The doctor was still embarrassed, and strongly desired to leave. Thankfully, there wasn't an ungodly amount of time left in class. Time ticked on by, and Kaida didn't make another sound the rest of the class. Even her pencil seemed to stop making noise when she wrote.
'Brilliant actions...I may have potentially purchased a death-wish...' the girl thought to herself. She was knocked out of her senses by a shrill shriek of the bell. The girl resisted the urge to wince, flinch, and cover her ears. The sounds of things being put away reached Kaida's ears, and she started to do the same. The teacher looked around and dismissed the class in such a manner that nobody dared to speak out until they had left the room. Kaida herself had almost gotten to the door and thought that perhaps she would escape a tongue lashing from the teacher when it had to happen.
"Kaida, you stay. I need to talk to you."
'This...is undoubtedly of a negative nature...' the girl thought while stopping in her tracks and then moving to the side of the door to prevent blocking the passageway. There were whispers from those that were nearby at the moment, giggles, and then a few occasional jeers directed towards the medically inclined student. She didn't react to them and kept her cool mask on her face. There were still a few kids in the classroom, which meant that she was safe for a little moment longer. Kaida remained silent and kept her gaze away from her teacher. She didn't want to be dealing with that piercing and sharp gaze yet. Not until she had to.
She saw a wisp of platinum blonde hair exit the doorway and Kaida knew who it was. The girl. She shifted her weight uncomfortably and turned her gaze to the unoccupied corners of the room. Well, it wasn't like she had any plans that were different from her normal ones that day. The rest of the students filed out quickly, and Kaida was left alone with her instructor. There was a silence between them and the door closed. Now they were truly alone. Kaida bowed her head to the orange-haired woman.
"I...apologize sincerely for my outburst..." she claimed in th e calmest voice she could. Normal students would have promised that it wouldn't happen again. Kaida didn't. She tended to avoid making promises she might not have been able to keep. The girl kept her gaze on the floor and waited for the lashing that was probably coming. If it wasn't for her little outburst, it was probably for whatever "You're not putting out your full potential" thing that every teacher seemed to have for telling her.
The teacher chuckled a little, flicking away her vividly orange hair. She always took a liking to Kaida, but always tried to hide it away from the rest of the class. Favoritism was never appreciated in Templar Academy. She never grew tired of the girl's eloquent form of speech, but rather, found it a pleasant perk that completely differed her from pretty much everyone else in the classroom. Including herself, of course. She could never talk like that, so naturally, so smoothly.
"Ah, Kaida, don't take it too hard upon yourself," she smiled, placing a soft hand on the girl's shoulder. "I know that everyone around here wants to see your 'full potential.' But they don't understand. All they see is a young woman who refuses to conform to them. What I see is a girl whose potential lies untapped. Keep that in mind, okay?"
The teacher gave the girl a friendly shake before taking her leave. She never found it easy dealing with children, but with Kaida, that was different. She had always had a warm spot for the girl ever since she saw her. Maybe it was the way she looked, the way she talked? What confused her most, is that she really didn't know why.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Efrin took a deep, long sigh of relief as he walked down the hall. At last, the long, first day was finally over. It really seemed like an eternity for the day to end. The best (and probably only likable) part about the Academy was that he could relax in the dorm for the rest of the day, until the following morning. And the fact of absolutely zero homework was also a nice treat. The end of school was considerably less busy than the break: there were barely any people walking around. Maybe they were all tired after a day's work? He didn't know about them, but Efrin sure didn't feel that tired. He felt the presence of another person walking beside him and turned around. It was Miro.

"Well, how was the first day?" he asked, smiling.

"It could have been better, but I'm not complaining. It could have been a lot worse." Efrin replied.

"...You're probably right there. I'm sorry about your white-haired friend. What they did was inexcusable."

"Ah, it's okay, really. Everybody gets their just deserts in due time. Just about everyone I know has." There was a long pause as the two of them continued walking down the sparsely populated hall.

"Say, what's your dorm number?"

"Uhh..." Efrin pulled a torn, wrinkled slip of paper out of his pocket and squinted to see the tiny writing. "364."

"Really?" Miro responded, quite happily. "That's right next to mine! I'm 363!"

"That's awesome!" The two took the chance to deliver a sound hi-five, one that reverberated down the entire hallway.

"Come on, let me show you to your room." Miro took an abrupt turn into a rather decrepit, metallic stairway that seemed in need of dire repair. Miro walked up it rather carelessly, but Efrin took care to each and every step, as each one he took emitted a harsh creak as he put his weight down on it. It wasn't long before they reached the 4th floor, the floor that contained their dorm rooms. As Efrin followed Miro's lead, he noticed the declining nature of the entire dorm floors in comparison to the actual school itself. The sickly yellow wallpaper was beginning to peel in huge areas. Roaches ran rampant across the filthy, stained carpet floor. These parts resembled a rundown apartment rather than a school dorm. Efrin hoped his room wouldn't be such a wreck.

"Aha! We're here." Miro pointed, his hand directing towards the two doors in front of him labeled "363" and "364." Judging by the looks of the doors, they didn't seem all that great. Being made of wood, both of them were in need of re-tarnishing, and there were long, jagged claw marks and even the occasional burn mark here and there. His hand slowly wrapped around the knob and turned it.

However, Efrin was rather impressed by the quality of the room. Everything seemed considerably cleaner than the outside halls, and although it wasn't as good as his old bedroom, Efrin felt he could certainly feel cozy in a place like this. The walls were painted a creamy white, and the carpet, which was once a dirty vomit-ish color, had now turned into a pleasant green tinge that was comfortable to the touch. There was a counter in the wall, and there was even a computer plugged in as well.

"Enjoy your room while you're at it," Miro chuckled, opening the door to his own room. "See you sometime later."

"Bye!" Efrin called back, just in time before he heard the door close. He kicked off his shoes and laid himself onto the bed, which was a lot more comfortable than he had expected. He could enjoy things here.

PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Wed Aug 05, 2009 4:43 pm

Kaida braced herself for the tirade that she expected to come without showing anything on her face. No wince, no "this won't be good" look on her face, no...difference. She was used to tongue lashings in much the same way that she was used to rumors, taunts, mockery, and insults directed in her direction. Holding her tongue in check at the chuckle, Kaida awaited what the teacher might have to say and was only surprised when the teacher had spoken with that even tone that betrayed no irritation or hatred. Kaida resisted the urge to blink her surprise away and instead let it wash over her in a numbing sensation. It was like...anesthesia. There was a soft touch on her shoulder, and Kaida felt something somewhat unfamiliar behind the touch. Something her mother had hidden well and her father had simply never had towards the teen. Kaida couldn't quite label it.

Even the speech was different, and though Kaida was distrustful of most teachers and figureheads at Templaria, the girl could actually hear the sincerity behind the words. The teachers were likely to try the same tactics, to be gentle and attempt to draw out enough connection to get Kaida to do whatever they deemed was to her "full potential", but the girl couldn't hear any lies in the voice. A tentative thought came to mind. perhaps the teacher was actually...sincere? Kaida bowed lightly to the bright-haired woman out of habit and gave a little "Yes ma'am" before she left and stayed in the room for a moment alone to sort her thoughts out.

Unfortunately, her mind didn't get long to work out the thoughts as a sudden memory came to mind. It was like having a brick thrown at the back of Kaida's head. She gave a sharp inhalation of breath and then quickly checked the time. The girl hissed slightly in frustration and then quickly shouldered her things and ran for the door. She was late, and she had left her identification in her dorm. The girl darted out the door--subconsciously realized that she didn't see her teacher anywhere after exiting the room--and hastily sprinted back to her dorm, which happened to be on the fifth floor. Dorm 424. The girl was fast to jerk her door open and run into the meticulously clean room (it had taken ages to get all the grime out of the place).

"Identification, pass, tag...ah, access card!" Kaida snatched a bundle of items off the counter and then turned tail and ran, all but slamming the door behind her. Her mother was going to be angry. Kaida had been granted permission to observe an important surgery alongside most of the most important people in the medical world. Her mother was going to be head surgeon, and it was supposedly the most crucial operation to the thesis that the first assistant was going to be presenting. Muttering under her breath, Kaida dashed down the hallway and towards the stairwell. Unfortunately, luck decided not to be with her, and the girl stepped on a roach, heard it crunch, and then slipped on its corpse about a third of the way down the stairs.

"G-gah!" that was the only sound that managed to escape Kaida's lips before she tumbled down the stairway and collapsed in a pile at the bottom. Kaida winced and sat back up slowly as not to potentially cause herself more harm than she already had by pulling such a ludicrous stunt. She could hear people snickering at her and the ones nearest the stairs were all opening their doors to take a look at what had caused the commotion. Kaida got up with as much dignity as she could and dusted herself off before taking a slower pace. Once her head stopped spinning, she'd start running again, but the last thing she needed was to get dizzy at the top of the next stairway and fall down another flight of stairs. Gently rubbing the back of her head to check for injuries, Kaida felt a wave of relief when she hadn't felt anything.

Still, she was glad that nobody she knew and respected was on the floor she was on as far as her knowledge went. True, she ached a little bit after falling down the stairs, but her pride hurt a lot more. The dark haired girl moved some stray hair out of her face and then cursed her foul luck with a colorful vocabulary. She was already running late, and this was only going to serve to make her later. It wasn't as though she could magically fly there, and she certainly didn't have any money to hire someone to transport her there in a vehicle. Worse than that, Kaida didn't even have any means of transportation apart from her own two legs. Things were really deciding not to go her way that day.

PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Thu Aug 06, 2009 2:25 pm

The darkness had been watching for some time. Ever since its banishment at the hands of mankind, it had been sealed into the everlasting chaos of Dusk. It resented it, yes, but for millennia, there was nothing it could do but silently scream in hatred at its binds. Until now. Not too long ago, about 1000 years ago, the ancient seal had been broken. Shattered by the very ignorance that had plagued mankind since the beginning. The sacred book, Templaria, had been disturbed by foolish thieves that had made their way into the ancient chambers of the library. True to its primal nature, the darkness instinctively seized its chance. Its presence burst forth from the realm of Dusk and spread its tendrils, claws, and extremities into the world. The Reclamation had begun.

There were endless flames. Bodies were strewn everywhere. She was standing among them, standing in a pool of their own blood. They were piled high, disgusting mounds of corpses dripping with fresh blood. Her eyes were wide with shock. She heard a sickening laugh. Slowly, she turned around. Walking towards her, ever so slowly, was the body of Efrin. His once flawless face was covered with deep gashes and scars, with blood caked upon his entire features. Suddenly, horrifying, disgusting creatures began to rise from the darkness at his feet. Like gross, oversize insects, they were so demented she failed to describe them in words. She tried to scream, but she was mute. Her mouth couldn't utter a word. Slowly, she started to back away...her foot caught on a severed arm. Her balance upset, she began to topple backward... down into a world of darkness... and then Efrin spoke to her.

"...Serra..." Serra tried to shout for him as she fell, deeper and deeper, but the darkness began to envelop her vision. Her call seemed to be absorbed by the darkness itself.

"...T-this is...." Serra screamed with all her might, but nothing came out.

"fate..."

And then everything was black.

Serra burst from her slumber in a cold sweat, her breaths coming deep and ragged. ...W-what have I just seen...? she thought. The vision had faded from her eyes just as quickly as it had entered. Her breaths coming shaky, she wiped the sweat from her brow with a trembling palm. W-what did those words... mean?

The Reclamation had begun.

This is fate.

What was he trying to tell me...? She used to have visions like these when she was much younger, but her parents had always dismissed them as simple "dreams." But there was something eerily disturbing about this one. Never before had these visions had been so morbid before. Normally, they seemed to predict future events... events that happened in the very near future. She was about to get out of the white sheets when the realization hit her with the force of a sledgehammer.

All the way down in dorm room 301, there was a bloodcurdling scream. Serra trembled in her sheets, fear overcoming her. N-no way... she thought. Her very thoughts seemed to tremble with fear. That's... the future...?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Efrin awoke reluctantly to the sound of his door being slammed open by a particular guy named Miro. Sun shined through the windows, but he simply covered his head with the thin sheets.
"Come on, Sir. Sleepy." Miro prodded Efrin's head with the butt of the Jihatzu-Komo. All he got in return was a groan and slight rumbling of sheets.
"If you don't get up now, you're going to be late,"
"..."
"The teacher doesn't like late people."
"..." Miro shook his head in disgust. Raising his spear high, he delivered a loud smash to the sleeping boy's head. As expected, it provoked quite a response.
"OUCH!" Efrin yelled, throwing open the sheets. There was a noticeable hot-spot on this forehead where Miro had smacked him. Miro tried to restrain a laugh, but let a smile escape through a lips.
"What the hell was THAT for?"
"I had to get you awake, one way or another," Miro replied, casually. "Come on, if you don't get up, like right now, you're going to be incredibly late. Don't expect me to drag your butt out like this every morning." Efrin's face narrowed, but he nodded in understanding. In a single leap, he bounded out of the bed, grabbed his sword, and quickly followed in suit with Miro. They weren't walking for that long when an expression of shock crossed Miro's face. Efrin took notice.
"Mm? What's wrong, Miro." Efrin questioned.
"I think I forgot something in my room," Miro replied. "I'll catch up with you later."
"Alright then." Efrin turned his back on Miro and continued walking down the dorm hall. Suddenly, he caught notice of a figure down the hall running right at him. It wasn't long before he realized it was Serra.
"Serra!" He called, but she showed no sign of stopping. She continued to run at him at full-force. As she drew nearer, her face told him something was troubling her dearly. "Serra...? Is something wrong?" He was surprised to feel two hands clamp on his shoulder and the pretty face of Serra staring right into his. Her face seemed stricken with fear.
"E-Efrin..." Her voice was trembling.
"Serra?"
"I-I had a vision..."
"A vision...? Of what?" His voice rose in intensity as his curiosity grew. Serra didn't act like this everyday. Hell, she almost NEVER acted like this. Something was definitely wrong...
"....Bad things are going to happen, Efrin."
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Thu Aug 06, 2009 6:07 pm
If there was one thing that Kaida was glad for, it was the fact that the had not had homework. She had managed to make it to the hospital just before they had given up hope on her presence, though she had received several chilly glares from the chief of medicine of the hospital and a few other department heads. Oddly enough, the head of the ER hadn't given her the same look. The one he had given Kaida unnerved her much more. Like a predator closing in on its prey, but being too selfish to share it with the buzzards. Kaida had made sure to nestle herself comfortably in the place her mother would have inhabited beside the head of her own department, his hand on her shoulder as though she was some child that had to watch her dog get put down. Kaida held back the desire to shake the hand intruding her personal space off.
It took nine hours. It shouldn't have taken more than six, but the patient had many complications. An hour and forty-five minutes after a new day had started, the operation had completed. The professors applauded, the chief of medicine nodded in approval, and Kaida said and did nothing apart from her customary final check on the patient. Her pink eyes gave a faint glow as the magic webbed over them, and then her mind registered the patient's weak, but stable condition. A wave of relief washed over the girl and she left to file a report and make a copy of the observation tapes for future reference. By the time Kaida had finished everything and was able to go back home, she had to be accompanied by the head of the ER to explain why she'd been out so late. True, usually the authoritive figures didn't mind when Kaida ran in at midnight or one in the morning, but that day was a little different.
By the time she'd gotten to the front, it was four hours into the new day. Exhausted, she let her eyes rest for a moment while the head of ER explained the situation to whoever happened to be watching for others trying to sneak out. It took about six minutes for the situation to be settled and the head of ER, venemously gentlemanly as always, walked Kaida to her dorm. He made occasional comments on the not-so-clean surroundings, but once Kaida jerked her door open, he seemed pleased to see that Kaida had cleaned up her own dorm. She bade him good night and he placed a gentle kiss onto Kaida's hand. She pulled back almost instantly afterwards and waited for the man to go down the stairs before closing her door after him. Despite her massive exhaustion, Kaida went through the effort of keeping up her personal hygiene before all but collapsing onto her bed and letting sweet sleep overtake her.
______________________________________________________________________
The sunlight filtered through her window and onto her face, which awoke the light sleeper who had all but collapsed only half dressed onto her bed the night before. Kaida gave a soft mumble and rose from her place before quickly checking the time. Her eyes widened in utmost terror. She was going to be late if she dawdled. Kaida pulled on her clothes, not even bothering to button up her blouse before throwing her lab coat over her shoulders, snagging her belongings off the counter and leaving. While moving down the hall, Kaida raked the tangles out of her hair while hastily making her way down the stairs. The last thing she needed was to be late. The girl didn't manage to make it halfway down the hall before she saw two others of familiar presence. The boy and his friend. Under most circumstances, Kaida would have just brushed past them, but as she started moving by, she suddenly felt a chill move down her spine.
'Perhaps it is simply premonition...' the girl thought while continuing her walk towards the classroom at her normal brisk pace. Deciding not to bother the two in their moment, Kaida walked past, realizing that she still had to button her blouse. She started to do so and caught sight of someone familiar. It was Miro. A memory snapped back into her memory and the doctor quickened her pace so that she could catch up with her peer. As she reached his side, she waited a few moments before bringing up the question that she knew she wouldn't be able to avoid. "Regarding yesterday..." and here the girl paused, unsure of what she should say. After all, she hadn't really been pulled into the rumors before. She'd never had a reason to before. "Might I request that you deny any...false anecdotes that others may suggest? It would be invaluable to both my time and your own."
As she said this, Kaida glanced over towards the spear-wielding boy with her pink eyes. She was embarrassed to be asking such a favor, but she didn't need to have people bothering her every step she took due to some misunderstanding. While awaiting for an answer from the boy, Kaida let the magic channel into her eyes and it webbed over them once again. She'd never learned to trust anyone in her life. Everyone lied to her, from her parents down to her closest coworkers, and even Ms. Miki, the nurse she had grown fond of as a child had held secrets from Kaida. That was why Kaida had memorized the natural human body reactions when one lied. Heart rate shot up, which increased blood pressure, and the nerves tensed and in certain individuals, they vibrated. As the magic fused into her eyes, Kaida was unable to hold back a wince as a sharp pain shot into her skull at the process. 'I must have overexerted my abilities last night...' Though the fact that she had received less sleep than a human body should have received was probably a contributing factor as well.
Miro was on his way to retrieve one of the school textbooks he had forgotten. He knew he wasn't even that far, but someone managed to stop him on his way back. It was Kaida. Miro stopped. She looked like she had something important to say, but something was dreadfully obvious about her. There were dark circles under her eyes, and judging by the way she was moving, she hadn't gotten much sleep last night. Miro didn't like it when she stayed up so late: she always acted so differently when she did. Differently meaning: grouchy, irritable, and prone to random bouts of sleep.
"Kaida, have you-" he started.
"Regarding yesterday," she cut him off before he could even finish his sentence. Miro's face narrowed. She seemed to be searching for what to say, so he gave the girl some time to gather her thoughts.
"Might I request that you deny any...false anecdotes that others may suggest? It would be invaluable to both my time and your own." Miro was almost half-expecting that question. In this school, any little thing of the sort would explode into full-blown rumors and gossip. He wasn't exactly the safest guy around Templar Academy, and wouldn't be for a few days. Then Miro noticed the strange way Kaida was looking at him. He knew all too well what she was doing already: he'd seen her do that way too many times in the past.
"What does it mean to you? And look, I'm not going to lie to you. When have I ever lied to you?" Miro replied. True, Kaida had never shown concern over such things like this. This hardly even mattered to her: why would she tell him to quell these "anecdotes?" "Ah, anyway," he started, "It's not like it'll mean anything. Those rumors will be gone in a few days." Deep inside, Miro sincerely hoped so. He gave Kaida a quick farewell before running back into his room. After throwing open the door, he dove into the nearest mountain of clothing, throwing away random shirts and shorts to find the one book. It's gotta be around somewhere... he thought. Suddenly, while inside mound #5, his fingers brushed across something solid. A grin spread across his face as he snatched the book out of the pile, pieces of clothing flying everywhere. Within moments he was out of his rather messy room and had started dashing back to Efrin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Efrin was absolutely speechless. Serra had told him the entire gruesome tale, almost on the verge of tears. He was at a total loss of words, for a moment.

"Is that... is that.... going to happen to everyone?" he asked, gently placing both hands on her shoulder.

"I-I don't know... Efrin..." Serra whispered. "Just..." She looked straight at him with a look of definite concern.

"P-promise me it won't happen to you, okay?" Efrin's heart skipped a beat at those words. Was she trying to imply something here? Before he could react, she threw her arms around him and squeezed, hard.

"I promise, Serra." He wrapped his arms around her, in comfort. ...I never realized how nice she smelled... he thought.

Kaida raised an eyebrow at Miro when he questioned whether he had ever lied to her. She couldn't think of one off the top of her head, though she didn't exactly make small talk with him very often. Her face didn't grow any softer, but she did try to show some form of respect. He questioned what it would matter to her, but Kaida didn't have an answer. He wasn't lying, or at least, not consciously. True, he might not have totally understood her, but at least the boy got some things to him. Kaida exchanged quick farewells with him and then watched as he dashed back towards his dorm. The dark-haired girl turned away from the boy and continued on her way to class. At the least, she had time to make it to class without much issue. The last minute late crowd hadn't formed yet, which meant that Kaida would be able to easily pick her way through the small throngs of people.

Getting to the second floor was easy, but at that moment, Kaida was suddenly engulfed in a river of individuals. The ones that always left at just the right moment so that they made it to class on time. She felt the occasional stare and heard a few giggles, but she managed to ignore them. The girl had barely managed to reach the first floor before someone tapped her on the shoulder and then jerked her off to the side, away from the throngs of people. It was a face Kaida didn't particularly recognize or care for. She raised her eyebrow in question and crossed her arms and tapped her foot. "May I be of assistance to you?"

"Dude, who are you with? I heard you and that Miro kid had something going on, but then I hear you coming back at four in the morning with that old guy!" the girl said while putting her hands on her hips, her cherry lips in a curious smile. Kaida blinked and though her mind was set in a scowl, her face made no visible change. Well. That was certainly a change of events. She hadn't expected rumors revolving around him, all things considered. After all, it had been an ungodly hour of the night when she had returned. Likely far past the normal person's bedtime. Kaida sighed, put her hand to her temple and waited for a moment. This was going to make things twice as frustrating. Dealing with one person's reputation was hard, dealing with two people's reputation was hell, and then adding her own reputation on top of that...well, Kaida simply hated the situation.

"Neither. Miro was simply an innocent charged with a crime he did not commit, and the head of ER was simply escorting me from the hospital after an operation..." she snapped back with a little more emotion than she had meant to betray. Kaida then turned from the one that had pulled her aside and marched back into the river. The day hadn't even started yet and already the rumors were shooting her in the face. Kaida ignored the irritation and continued walking. She stopped in front of her own class and then decided that she didn't want to deal with the rumors and the questions for a few moments, so she broke from the crowd and leaned against the wall to brace herself for the frustration she'd be dealing with that day. Before long, Kaida realized that she was...tired. So exceedingly tired. Deciding that she would rest her eyes for a bit, Kaida closed her eyes and relaxed herself slightly in her standing position so she looked to be nonchalantly leaning against the wall. Before she'd realized it, Kaida had slipped into the land of light slumber, still vaguely aware of the world around her even as her body tried to rest.

Efrin and Serra stood silently, locked in embrace. Her arms were around his shoulders, his around her waist. His face was buried in her white, silky hair, and he was rather enjoying its smell. They seemed that they would stay this way for some time until Miro came dashing down the hall. Efrin failed to take notice.

"Hey, Efri-" Miro's cut himself short. The book fell from his hands. Suddenly, his face grew into a wide grin. "So you do like that girl!"

"Wha- what?" Efrin recoiled in surprise, releasing his hold on Serra. The white-haired girl pulled back, just as surprised. Efrin's face quickly turned a bright shade of red. He quickly averted his gaze away from Miro.

"I-I guess, I'll see you around then, Efrin." Serra murmured, as she ran off the other way, her face the same shade of maroon. Efrin turned around and reached after her, but by the time he did so she was already down the stairs and probably down to the first floor. He looked back at Miro, whose face was still stuck in that same smug grin of his.

"Yeah, hi there," he grumbled. "What did you want?"

"Well, I didn't expect that to happen." Miro replied. His smile immediately shrunk to something that resembled a near-frown.

"...." Efrin didn't look exactly happy. He didn't want to lash out at the first friend he just made, he just couldn't. He learned that lesson in the orphanage.

"If you like her, then you shouldn't be ashamed, alright?" Miro put a hand on his hip, as if he was annoyed. "Whatever. She got the right idea, if we don't hurry, we're going to be late to class." Miro slapped him on the shoulder and bent over to pick up the book he dropped.

"Miro...?" Efrin asked, his voice just above a whisper. Miro stood up, book in hand.

"Yeah?"

"...Have you ever liked someone?" There was a long, awkward silence as both Efrin and Miro stared at each other. It felt like minutes before, finally, Miro opened his mouth.

"Yeah. Once." Miro's face narrowed, and he quickly walked past Efrin. "I'd rather not talk about it." Miro? Liking someone? WHAT? Efrin was getting a little giddy at the mere thought of it. Suddenly, he realized Miro had already gone far down the hallway, and almost to the stairway. Efrin decided it was probably best if he didn't say anything about it, so he silently followed in suit, his feet creaking down the stairs with every step. It wasn't too long until they reached the main hall, with either of them not having said a word. The main hall was only somewhat busy, with other students running about just in time to get to class. As usual, the dim lighting made it almost impossible to see anything. Oh, who could it be? It couldn't be Kaida, could it? No, it couldn't be...it could be- Efrin's thoughts were in total disarray as he opened the classroom door and walked inside. Thankfully, the bell hadn't rung yet, so he was just in time. He was so busy in his though that he hadn't noticed Miro hadn't gone in with him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miro slowed his pace. Efrin was acting rather distracted, so he took his chance and slipped behind him. He knew someone like him wouldn't listen and just would ask him questions about it anyway. As he passed by Efrin unnoticed, he let loose a small, inward sigh of relief. Yet, he hadn't escaped entirely. It was like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, as someone pulled him aside from the shirt and into the wall. He ran into the surface with a small thump. Unfazed, he stared into his assailant. It was a girl about his size, but he had to admit, Miro had never seen her before. Still, he didn't have time for abrasive gossip.
"Look, I don't have time for your silly rumors, okay? I didn't try to do anything to any girl." He pushed her grasping hand aside and started towards the classroom. Fortunately, the girl gave up with a dainty gasp and didn't try to go after her. Miro knew he didn't have much time until an entire mob out for him would coerce, so he made his way into Efrin's classroom with all due haste. He opened the door, and as his last foot passed through the doorway, the piercing shriek of the class bell filled the air. He slumped into the chair nearest Efrin and let out an even bigger sigh than before.
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Fri Aug 07, 2009 8:16 pm
The passing people running into the class had not disturbed Kaida enough to urge her into the doorway. She returned to sleep time and time again until suddenly a shrill shriek pierced the air and made Kaida start up. That was the late bell. Definitely not a good thing. The dark haired girl hastily stood up straight and then smoothed out the wrinkles in her clothing before realizing her blouse was still slightly unbuttoned. Taking a few moments to make herself decent, Kaida then regained her composure and pushed the door open to the class, keeping her dignity and hastily making her way to her chair after giving a swift, apologetic bow to the teacher. After all, she was glaring and lookin as though she was snapping or close to shouting at the other late students.
Her eyes darted left and right, catching the familiar faces from the day before. They were staring at her, some of them giggling, others giving her a look she didn't particularly like. Kaida moved to her normal spot in the back of the room and took her seat, ignoring the looks that she could feel settled onto her. She didn't often make it a point to be late. Quite the opposite, actually. She hated being even a moment late. The girl glanced at the few that had trickled in behind her, most of them out of breath. Leaning against her desk, Kaida let loose a soft sigh and then closed her eyes. Calmly, she let her body lean forward and then gently touched her fingers to the area between her eyes as her mind wandered. Her legs rubbed together uncomfortably in the skirt she had set aside for that day. It was probably the most important day of her life so far. 'I must be on time, or Dr. Kanmoto will be infuriated. Presenting the radius thesis will be the gateway to my siphoning thesis...'
Kaida's mind wandered as the class started to drone on. Instinctively, Kaida recalled the motions from the operation the night before and memorized them completely without even thinking. A bad habit she had after an operation. Watch learn repeat. Her fingers moved gently at the same time as the memory of her mother's. She'd been watching the instant replay in her head since the operation ended, and it had even invaded her dreams. She'd just grafted a vein in her image training when suddenly a heaviness weighted against Kaida's shoulders and eyes, and once again she was slipping back and forth between her half-aware state of mind and her horrified attentive state. 'This is the final day, Kanmoto. Tomorrow, the thesis review will be submitted to Dr. Kanmoto and you will know...'
Kaida recalled the four surgeries that the thesis had required. Her eyelids drooped over her pink eyes. She had been researching every night since her mother had requested help. Kaida suspected that her father had asked for her presence so that her mother could siphon Kaida's abilities. It took less energy to hold someone else's abilities than one's own, but it drained two people at once. The girl suddenly blinked herself back to awareness when something was thrown at her. Kaida glanced at the paper and brushed it off to the side of her desk, fully intending to recycle it later. It was probably just another rumor scribbled on a note. 'Such irritations are too plentiful...'
ooc: wow, for some strange reasong my email wasn't notifying me of the constant updates... O.o; (or at least what seems like constant updates...)
tina had her knee to the edge of the desk as the tardy bell rang as the last few students came in. tina had been almost worried that something had happened to kaida since she was usually quite early. tina looked up to smile at kaida but as usual her smile either went unnoticed or her smile was to creepy or something. The teacher also rushed in late (the strong smell of coffee around the woman suggested that the line at the coffe pot in the teacher's lounge was too long), and she immediately (sp) started scrawling on the whiteboard. While students scribbled in their notebooks, the teacher mentioned something about battle scenarios under her breath, and something reminded her to start a full on lecture on defensive strategies against the enemy, even though the teacher should have been talking about the history of the templaria.
tina put her head on the desk. the bookworm inside her wanted to open up a novel during class, even though that was severely looked down upon since she was a summoner. (especially if she read aloud. then no one, not even herself, knew what would happen if a character from a book was summoned. although it might have been useful in some situation...)
tina got fed up with how bored she was, and scribbled out a note.
the teacher's so off topic right now it's hilarous XD
she wrote, and passed the note to Efrin since she didn't know who else to pass it to. "good gods i'm bored," tina thought as she yawned.
Everybody in the classroom was delightfully bored. There was no doubt about that. The normally chirpy, bright-orange-haired teacher had gone dull in her speech, having gone incredibly off-topic to the point where the classroom discussion was now about proper disposal of filthy laundry. She was so into her speech, that she failed to take notice that nobody in the entire class was paying even the slightest attention to her. People were passing around notes, whispering about the latest gossip, and some were even practicing magic. Efrin happened to be one of these bored people, as with Miro. Efrin was busy thinking about a certain someone, and he was rather permanently stuck in dreamland for the time being. Someone passed a note to his desk, but in his unfocused state he completely disregarded it. Miro, on the other hand, was busy carving random symbols into his desk with tiny, focused blades of wind. The entire classrom was, in lack of better terms, in silent turmoil.
The entire class was too busy to notice the small blotches of blackness that had just started to form in the back of the classroom. At first, they began as small drops upon the stone floor, but quickly, they began to grow in size. A strange, dark mist rose from the black substance, yet nobody noticed this horrifing phenomenon. Faster, and faster it grew in size, until it was the size of a small puddle. Suddenly, something dark rose from the pool of darkness. A small, imp-like creature emerged from the puddle, dripping with pure darkness. It quickly grew accustomed to its surroundings, its insect-like antenna perked up. Another creature identical to itself climbed out behind it, now making two of the entities. They both found what they were looking for: fresh prey. In their tiny, dark-red eyes, they spotted a girl in front of them. She was a prime target: a powerful source of magic, the long, black-haired girl simply seemed to exude power. The creatures like that, and were attracted like moths to a light. Slowly, and silently, they lurked. They crawled across the floor and up behind the desk, ready to strike at a moment's notice.
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Wed Aug 12, 2009 9:43 pm
Kaida had slipped between the land of slumber and the land of the aware multiple times throughout the lecture that the teacher had been giving about defensive battle strategies, most (if not all) of which she had learned from her aunt. The girl blinked herself back to awareness and then continued the operation she was doing via image training, her fingers moving in perfect harmony with the conjured memory of her mother's. She was in her own little reality at that point, jut barely registering what the teacher had to say in her head.
She was actually excessively tired, her body was aching and her arms felt as though there were two-ton weights on them. The girl continued her mental work. She held back a yawn and continued to work on the image training she had set up. Her eyes narrowed as the memory of the operation grew harder, the incisions becoming highly dangerous to the state of the patient. The surgery was on beat and there was a need for excision of the inflicted areas of the heart. Before she could make the incision, Kaida was jerked out of her dreamlike state and her eyes widened and she was suddenly very awake. The doctor linked and glanced about, but saw nothing that could possibly make her hairs stand on end in that way. Her eyes shot left and right and then she shakily settled herself back into her image training state of mind.
Before she could settle back into her regular sense of mind, the girl felt a presence behind her. The girl froze and then quickly darted a glance behind her, and at the sight, jerked up to her feet, almost knocking er desk in the floor. Two creatures, both frightening and covered in darkness that Kaida found extremely unnerving. The girl instantly leaped to the top of her desk and fell into a defensive combat stance picked up from her aunt, memorized motions flowing naturally through her body. She immediately recalled how to react in the case of an emergency, and started barking orders before she could stop herself. A sea of memories shot through her mind as she dodged the first attack from one of the two creatures, just barely avoiding what might have been a very painful strike.
"Two intruders unknown origin located, both assumed to be hostile. Those that are capable of combat should assume that such a course of action will be necessary, all others should retreat to safety," the girl ordered while dodging another attack with fast footwork. Immediately thereafter, Kaida bent her knees and sent a kick at the one that was still recovering, sending it flying a few feet away, realizing that she didn't want to risk letting those claws tear into her. True, they might have been coated with something with healing properties, but it was also just as likely that the claws were meant for destructive purposes. Before she could return to a normal position, the second creature jumped at her, claws outstreched. Kaida would have dodged, but her tired body refused to keep her standing. Her knee buckled, and suddenly Kaida gave a sharp hiss and then collapsed under an unsteady leg, immediately bringing her arms up to defend her face and neck while balling her hands into defensive fists fo keep her hands from getting injured before bringing her legs up to her chest and kicking the creature away instantly before using the momentum to throw herself back to her feet. The two creatures were still backed against a wall, and Kaida's arms were far to heavy to use the weapons she had hidden under the sleeves of her clothing. Her pink eyes narrowed as she let loose a breath.
"If you are capable of rational thought, I would suggest you explain your intentions," Kaida growled with all the strength she could. She doubted that the hostile creatures would have been able to respond, but there was always a shot. Her body was still in a defensive position, but colors exploded in front of her vision. Her exhausted body couldn't stand for much further combat, but there was nothing Kaida could do other than defend herself.
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:20 pm
There was the sudden, unnerving noise of shuffling somewhere in the back of the class. Immediately, the classroom broke from its veil of monotony. The teacher stopped talking to herself. Everybody's head turned to the back of the room. Efrin's eyes too, shifted to the back and found the Kaida girl being assaulted by two strange black creatures. Someone in the room screamed. They must have seen the odd monsters as well.
"W-wh-what the hell are THOSE!?!??" a random girl shrieked, knocking over a desk as she stumbled backward, trying to get as far away from the little monsters.
At first, the critters didn't seem harmful at all, but quickly he saw the vicious claws the beings had on their tiny hands, which seemed quite dangerous. Kaida didn't seem to be in a state to fight at all, as the two creatures easily started to overwhelm her. Another person screamed as she was knocked to the floor. Efrin flung himself out of the chair and drew the slab of metal he called a sword. He was about to strike one of the little beasts, but Kaida countered one of their strikes with a well-timed kick, sending it flying towards the other side of the room. The critter smashed into the wall, oddly making no sound at all, before plopping to the ground. It didn't seem fazed at all, because it immediately resumed its relentless attack on the black-haired girl. Just by looking at the way Kaida moved, Efrin knew that she wasn't totally there. If nobody made a move to do something, she wouldn't last long against these creatures. Suddenly, before he could react, a black blur flew by his vision. Miro, armed with his spear, launched himself towards the little black things, landing beside Kaida.
"Kaida," he began, his voice steady and calm, "I can handle these things. You go get some rest... or something." Promptly, he drove the spearhead directly into the face of one of the creatures, which made a vain attempt to avoid the blow. The spear pierced the monster's black skin, driving through its body completely. Almost immediately after it sustained its fatal wound, the creature dissipated into a fine black mist, and was completely gone. There was absolutely no mark leftl on the silvery surface of the spear point. That left one last critter to go. Sensing the loss of its companion, the beast launched itself towards Miro, claws eager to tear into his flesh. Its lunge was cut short, as Efrin cleaved it in half with a single swing of his sword. The two severed body parts crashed into the ground and flopped around lifelessly before they too disintegrated into the same black smoke.
"O-okay... really... what the hell were those things...?" Efrin asked, placing the sword back onto his back. He had to admit, they were kind of weak, but they could have seriously injured someone else with those claws. They were potentially dangerous.
Suddenly, the last person he would have expected to answer him, did. With her beautiful white hair flowing as she stood up, Serra spoke.
"T-those were the things I saw, Efrin," she began, "These are known as Shades..."
Kaida wasn't sure how long she could have stayed and fought against the little creatures on her own. They were small, but they were also fairly resilient. She also had the disadvantage of a lack of sleep and a lack of energy. But her mind and conscience kept her up and fighting, unwilling to step down for the creatures might cause serious harm to others. Before long, there was a presence beside her, and as suddenly as it appeared, one of the creatures had been taken care of. Kaida glanced to her side and wasn't entirely sure whether she should be surprised that Miro was the first to react. His somewhat reassuring words would have made most people smile, or at least betray signs of one. Kaida did not, her mind too preoccupied with the massive amounts of adrenaline running through her body.
From the corner of her eye, Kaida saw the second creature throwing itself towards Miro, and she instantly moved into position to defend, but found that it was unnecessary. The fledgling was fast to react and had halved the creature, its body falling to the ground in two separate pieces, flopping about a bit before vanishing into wisps of black smoke. Kaida could feel her adrenaline starting to die down and swore mentally to herself, unable to focus onto the conversation that was going on. 'I was reckless...adrenaline may increase the physical capabilities, but the aftereffects of its fading might trigger a crash...' And then the adrenaline was gone from her system. Kaida felt the strength drain from her legs, and she staggered a bit, instinctively reaching for where her desk usually would have been for support. Unfortunately, being that she was on her desk, Kaida's hand landed onto Miro's arm, her mind not registering that it couldn't have been her desk that she was grabbing for support through the haze that had set in on it.
It took a few moments before Kaida noticed that she had been holding on to Miro and her instant reaction afterwards was to draw her hand back and utter a quick apology. The adrenaline rush was gone by then, and Kaida was able to keep standing on her own two legs for a moment longer before she could feel the loss of energy as the aftereffect of the natural reaction. She moved off her desk--albeit a bit shakily--and used the edge of it as support. Almost instantly afterwards, the girl was wincing and clutching her chest, her grip on the table tightening until the tips of her fingers turned white. Something in her was starting to crash, and judging from the trouble she was having breathing, Kaida assumed it was her lungs starting to refuse to work. A massive amount of pain set in and she squeezed her eyes shut and willed her body to function properly, her breath only coming shakily. Moments later, the pain subsided and breath came easy again. The crash hadn't happened, but it was close. The girl let her eyes remain shut for a few moments longer and regained herself before looking up at Miro and giving a quick little bow of appreciation.
"My greatest gratitude for your assistance," she claimed softly so that only he could hear. Her head was swimming at that moment, and Kaida could feel something in the pit of her stomach. A sinking feeling that tried to escape her by floating out of her. The dark-haired girl didn't like the feeling, recognizing it as premonition in a horrid sense. She mumbled something under her breath in the language of her mother. A saying that was no longer used in the modern day and age. "<Your name must be Wickedness, you father Hatred and your mother Evil...>" there was a pause and the girl finished the saying softly to herself in her normal language. "And there is no knight to slay you." Kaida had always mumbled those exact words to herself. It was a dark way of providing encouragement to her, and a brutally realistic way to remember there was not always going to be a knight to slay the dragons. However metaphorical they might have been.
tina sprung from her chair, whipped out her more difficult summons book, and immediately began chanting an incantation. so, shades, huh...?. as she finished up, she couldn't help but notice the teacher, who always told the students she was more or less an all-powerful goddess compared to them, was hiding behind her desk. i better get to rub this in the teacher's face after this.
there was a flash of light from the open pages of her book, and a white falcon emerged from the words. "the darkness can't even hold a candle next to light," tina muttered, then winced at her bad pun. "well, shall we?" she asked the flacon. the falcon looked at her expectantly. tina frowned. "fine, fine, i get it. i'm sure you can attack on your own, though," she snapped. the falcon seemed to shrug. "okay! attack at will!" tina shouted in fustration, and the bird dove towards the shades. tina snapped her book shut, then rushed towards the shades. "get out of my face before i put your head on a silver platter!" tina wacked the hardcover summons book at the shade, sending it against the wall. too bad it didn't do much damage.
"stupid little freaks! you're lucky you have thick skulls or that would've killed you!" tina threw somewhat empty words at the grinning shades. as it launched at her, she took another thwack at it, then gave it a round house kick into the falcon. the falcon barely dodged, but it gained composure of itself and immediately started screeching at the shade, using its talons to tear at it as much as possible. "why don't you die, freak?" tina took another hit at the shade with her book, and grazed the falcon in the process. "shoot! sorry!" tina quickly apologized.
OOC: Kiki, the fight is already over.
Suddenly, Miro found one of the black things flying straight towards his face. Crap... he swore, silently. He wouldn't have enough time to counter that thing's attack... He shut his eyes and waited for the pain to come, but to his amazement, there was the sound of metal slicing air, and it never came. He opened his eyes, and found the critter squirming on the floor in two pieces, writhing in bouts of agony before dissipating into wisps of black smoke. Beside the thing's removed corpse was Efrin, firmly grasping his sword. The brunette shot him a smug grin, and Miro winked back. Nice save, there. he smiled, knowing Efrin would get the message. Miro turned his attention to Kaida, who was still holding onto the desk as if for dear life. He'd never seen her in such a delicate manner, before. Normally, she'd always been a robotic, straightforward woman without the slightest emotion or action to give any part of herself away. As soon as Miro thought to do something, the girl released her grip and stumbled towards him.
Surprised, Miro felt a body collapse onto him. Half-expecting one of the little critters to be latched onto him: instead, he found a sleepy, nearly unconscious Kaida clinging onto his arm. Miro didn't know what to do. He felt his face turn red: he'd never been this close to a girl before, in a very long time. A drop of sweat formed on the back of Miro's head. Suddenly, she looked at him for a moment, before muttering something he couldn't hear and quickly letting go of him. She stumbled towards one of the nearby desks, nearly knocking one over in the process. Miro winced as he saw her grip the table in extreme pain, clutching her chest. He'd never seen her in such a bad way. As he walked over to her side, she seemed to get better, in less pain. The agony she seemed to be experiencing appeared to dissipate just like the critters had, almost into nothingness. Miro instantly felt something in his chest lighten, but he didn't know what it was. He reached out a hand as if to make sure she was okay, but suddenly, she began to speak random gibberish.
"K-Kaida...?" Miro stuttered. That too, was something he had never heard or seen her do. She'd never spoken like that before: it was always clean, coherent, and proper, as if she was a robotic student rather than a human. But Miro swore he could hear the words "There is no knight to slay you" as she finished, almost all traces of the pain she had experienced faded. He didn't know what the rest of what she had said meant, but he simply replied with a simple inquiry.
"You alright there, Kaida? You were in a pretty bad shape, earlier..." he said, placing his spear onto his back. He had to admit, she was looking rather unhealthily pale.
"...You know what? Don't answer that question." Miro responded.
"You just need sleep. I'll take you back to your dorm."
The rest of the class seemed in too much of shock and awe in the white-haired girl's stories to pay any attention to the one-sided conversation unfolding right in front of them. Even the teacher herself seemed interested.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"T-These things are called Shades," Serra began.

"Shades? Sounds like a pretty dumbass name," someone called out. Serra couldn't remember who it was. but the voice sounded extremely familiar. Almost too familiar.

"It doesn't matter what you call them," she replied, "all that matters it that they are beings of darkness." With that, the silver-haired girl began her stories about the history of mankind, and the War of Darkness. The class was not amused.

"Magic still remained fresh in the blood of people, and this lineage of power continued to flow all the way until modern times-"

"Tell us something we don't know, okay?"

"HEY! Watch your tongue, Polo before I-" Efrin started, but he calmed down once Serra gestured towards him.

"We don't need anymore violence in here!" Serra cried, standing up from her chair. "There's going to be a lot more, in the near-future. These things can appear at any time. They'll strike mercilessly, just like they did now!"

"We can't afford anyone to get hurt!" she shrieked, her white, flowing hair shaking as she spoke. I-I can't afford anyone to get hurt... she looked at Efrin, and he looked back.

PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Mon Aug 17, 2009 2:49 am

Kaida had barely gotten herself back to normal when she felt a familiar presence near her and a more or less familiar voice cracking the air. She couldn't quite focus on anything in particular, but she knew that voice. Unable to label who it belonged to instantly as she normally would have, Kaida turned sharply to identify who it was speaking. She was greeted by the sight of a certain spear-wielding boy with an expression of light concern painted onto his face. The girl hesitated for a moment, having been unable to make out the question that he had asked. But then, at that moment, he answered his own question by telling Kaida not to do as such. The girl was slightly confused, but had known others to do as such.

But then he spoke again, telling her that she needed sleep and offering to escort her back to her dorm. A flurry of thoughts rushed through the girl's head at that exact moment, different emotions attached to a great deal of them. He was offering her medical advice? But it was a kind gesture...but she needed to be there for the thesis! She couldn't afford to miss class either. Kaida tried to keep the thoughts from confusing her too much as she tried to push away the surprise by force. She found that her tongue was tensed, her mind wasn't able to come up with the words that she should have said. The only thing that could escape her mouth was something that she was certain wasn't a good excuse either way.

"A-as vastly as I appreciate your kind intentions, I must be present for the thesis..." about half of what she said wouldn't have made sense for most people. The girl realized this too late and prevented herself from doing the ungainly act of slapping herself in the middle of her forehead with her palm. At that point, nothing seemed to be going the way that it really should have. She hesitated for a moment after that and then gave the smallest hint of an apologetic smile tugging at he corner of her lips, though she didn't realize it herself. "Forgive me for any offense I may have caused...but it will require only the sufficient nutrients to fuel my actions for the remainder of the day."

And so the girl gave the bow another bow, though it was much less noticeable than before. The girl was certain that she would be fine. After all, it hadn't been the first time she'd ever had a near crash. Nor was it the first time that she had been sleep deprived. Hell, it wasn't even the first time the two had been put together, but it was the first time she'd had an adrenaline caused crash after a night of activity. Kaida had barely managed to turn towards the white-haired girl that was speaking about the creatures that had attacked her when some greater entity decided that the night-haired child couldn't be right for once that day. That everything had to go wrong. She'd barely managed to get ninety-seven degrees when all her strength suddenly sapped away. Her knees trembled a moment, and then buckled as though they couldn't keep up with Kaida's movements. The girl felt her eyes widen for less than a moment, shattering her normal mask of indifference, and then her head made contact with a hard table's edge. Stars exploded in front of her vision, and Kaida was far too dazed to keep herself from silently crumpling to the floor.

"T-thesis? Kaida, you aren't making any sense at all." Miro said, utterly confused at the string of nonsense the black-haired girl was saying. He cross his arms and looked at the girl. He stood there for a brief moment, speechless, before the girl slapped herself soundly in the forehead. The sound was sharp, but nobody else in the room could hear it. He winced a little as his eyes widened, taken by surprise by the sudden movement. Miro's head was swimming: he honestly did not know what the hell was going on with her. He also didn't know what to do with this girl.

"Forgive me for any offense I may have caused...but it will require only the sufficient nutrients to fuel my actions for the remainder of the day." The girl replied, a hint of weakness in her voice.

"Nutrients?" Miro's raised an eyebrow, amused at Kaida's ever-so-interesting way of speaking. "Even though you're a doctor, I don't think you know what's good for even yourself, sometimes." He stopped speaking as the girl gave him a dainty little bow, before turning to her seat. Yet, there was something about her movements that troubled him. She was acting as if she was running on the last bit of her energy, like a car with the last drop of fuel left in the tank. Nobody could ever know when it would splutter out and give away... she desperately needed sleep. Some food would be nice for her too: come to think of it, he didn't remember the last time he even saw her eating. Suddenly, Miro's noticed Kaida's knees flutter a bit. An expression of shock covered his face. Kaida was already out of fuel. Before he could even react, Kaida crumpled to the floor, smashing her head into one of the nearby desks in the process. Miro winced at the dull thump, as he leaped towards her falling body. He landed perfectly on both feet, and managed to catch her before the rest of Kaida crashed to the floor.

"See? What did I tell you, Kaida..." Miro muttered, smiling as he held her. As his eyes gazed into hers, he suddenly took notice of the awkward position both of them were in. His face quickly flushed a bright shade of red: he hadn't felt this embarrassed in a very long time. He also hadn't been this close to Kaida...

"...You should go to your dorm." He managed, returning her to a standing position. He took a step back, giving Kaida the sternest look he could. Which, unfortunately for him, wasn't very serious at all when his face was a bright red tint. Suddenly, the air was as thick as gelatin. Miro simply stood motionless, his mind racing over very recent events, unable to say a word.

"Actually, you will go to your dorm, and get a good nap. You're not saying no this time."

Then, the air was sliced clean open by the shrill blear of the school bell. There was an enormous shuffling as the entire classroom got to their feet, and started moving in a beeline to the doorway. In a matter of moments, a group of students managed to give the facade of a rhino's stampede. Miro quickly grabbed Kaida's hand, and he started moving his legs towards the door with all due haste. If they were quick enough, they could avoid getting trampled by the feet of hundreds of students, and hopefully Kaida wouldn't faint before she got to her dorm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Efrin jumped as the shriek of the bell shattered the still air. Serra had just finished her epic retelling of the tales of ancient times and her description of the Shades, and looked slightly tired from the ordeal. At once, her audience sprung to her feet and made its way to the door like ants to sugar. Efrin walked over to the white haired girl's side, and patted her on the shoulder. He grinned, his face in a wide smile.
"Not bad, Serra. You did good." He laughed. He only got a tired sigh as a response. Suddenly, he felt something soft rest against his shoulder, and he quickly realized it was her head. As she sat there, Efrin swore, he hadn't seen anything so serene in his entire life. He smiled, taking a seat and placing a gentle hand across hers. Serra, too, smiled, as she slowly grasped his hand with her own. As the two of them sat there, holding hands, both of them failed to remember that they hadn't seen Miro since the beginning of class.
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Wed Aug 19, 2009 11:01 pm
Kaida had squeezed her eyes shut in order to brace herself for her oncoming impact to the floor. Her head was spinning, her mind was swimming...Kaida already knew she was on the verge of completely blacking out on the floor. There was a silence as Kaida felt her body tense to brace for the hard floor's greeting...and it never came. She could feel warmth near her, no...touching her. Miro's voice floated into Kaida's ears from a frighteningly close range. The girl dared to open her eyes and was surprised to find that the boy was holding her.
For the second or third time that day, Kaida's face had shattered the normal mask of indifference that she would normally be wearing. The girl wondered why her heart rate had suddenly shot up when there was no adrenaline to be needed or used. Pink eyes darted to the side suddenly as Miro's temperature suddenly raised by several degrees. Before she could even ask "are you okay?" the boy was returning her to a standing position, saying something about her needing to go to her dorm. Kaida didn't have a chance to retort before he stepped back and tried to give Kaida the "You'd better listen to me" look that doctors were oh-so-capable of.
Kaida gave Miro the best "seriously, are you trying this?" look she could in her tired state of mind. He couldn't pull the look off. Miro wasn't trained to use that look, and Kaida was used to receiving and giving that look. She remained silent though, not entirely sure she trusted herself to say something, but her arms were crossed in front of her chest, her magenta-hued eyes sharp. And then Miro demanded that Kaida was going to go to her dorm, and Kaida was almost sure that he was going to back his words up with action.
"What is it that makes you belie--!" but Kaida couldn't get her words out before the shrieking bell screamed into her ears. The girl barely managed to keep her expression the same as the stampede of rhinos began. The girl pulled slightly to the side on instinct, knowing what happened to the unfortunate ones that happened to be in the way and not fast enough to move. However, just as the girl side-stepped, there was something on her hand. A firm-yet-gentle grip on her that Kaida wasn't sure how to respond to. Then again, she wasn't exactly given much choice.
'I suppose that I have little other choice...' the girl thought while following Miro, noting that her temperature was going up again, heat spreading from her face. The girl found little reason to object to Miro's lead and guidance, and though Kaida was used to walking fast, she found that her feet and legs were having trouble keeping up with Miro's strides. It took half the way to the stairway before Kaida suddenly realized something that Miro might not have thought of at first. The girl resisted very lightly, not enough to be completely pulling back, but just enough to be noticed. "A-are you even aware of the location of my dorm?!"
"Of course I do, Ms. Sleepy," Miro shouted, slowing his pace. They had managed to reach the stairs in time with their pace. "It's room 424." In Templar, there was no differentiation between girl or boy dorms: it made it rather easy to locate and travel to a particular person's room, but at the same time it came at the cost of gender-specific privacy. Then again, it's not like it mattered to him at all, and he doubted someone like Kaida would even care about something that trivial. Miro sighed and turned to Kaida. He and Kaida had been here for half a year already, yet it was only a few weeks ago that they started paying any sort of attention to each other. Because the pink-eyed girl was so damn unapproachable, it took him a while to even talk to her. The two had remained as mere acquaintances since then, and Miro really only cared for her as a friend. Whenever he looked at her, he simply saw Kaida. No strings attached, just Kaida. Miro was only a tiny bit glad about that: he had to admit, she wasn't lacking in the looks department. Her complexion was truly flawless, and there was just something, something he couldn't describe, that made her attractive in a mystical way. Really, for one thing, keeping his distance from her only spared him from the debilitating wave of gossip that would follow if the two of them were ever seen more than 5 feet from each other for prolonged periods of time. If that ever happened, Miro would never be in peace... and for right now he didn't think his dignity, or sanity for that matter could handle such a strain.
"Can you still walk, Kaida?" he asked, casting a glance towards her. Suddenly, he realized he was still holding onto her hand, and tightly at that. Stunned, he quickly let go and wiped the lone bead of sweat that had formed on his forehead. A sudden chill trickled down his spine... he quickly shook it off. He couldn't let this distract him.
"If you can't, just tell me, okay? I'll lend a hand," he said, taking his first step up the iron stairway. "You took a bad fall back down there. Don't show up with a brain problem later, alright?" Miro looked at Kaida for a moment, before quickly turning away. Wait a minute, what the hell am I saying?! His mind was frantic. We're just friends... nothing more. I can keep it that way... can I?
~~~~~

Efrin couldn't stop smiling. Sharing such a tender moment with Serra... this is what he dreamed of. He'd fallen for her ever since he saw her in that orphanage. He always tried to hide his affection, and he never truly understood such a thing at that age. But eventually, anything bottled up for too long will eventually shatter the bottle. Now, he knew his own particular bottle had broken. He couldn't hold back any longer. He didn't want to hold back any longer. He gave her his word that he would be safe, and he would follow that promise. Efrin stared into her eyes, admiring their beauty. They were truly a sight to behold... with the two of them alone, and break just starting, he didn't have anything to worry about. He slowly tightened his hold on her tender hand. Serra blushed a little, before returning the favor. Both hands entwined, the two gazed into each others eyes, for a long, long time.

"Serra?" Efrin breathed.

"Efrin?" Serra whispered, placing a soft hand on his shoulder. He responded by caressing it with his other.

"How do you feel right now?"

"I feel... happy. Very happy... I'm always happy when I'm around you Efrin, and I always have been..." With these words, Serra's face turned a bright scarlet.

"You might not have known this... but in the orphanage... whenever we were together... I liked it."

Does this mean... she's shared the same feelings...? Efrin thought, intensely. This came truly as a surprise to him. Before he could react, she had already wrapped her arms around him, her head in his shoulder.

"Y-you're warm... Efrin. It's... nice being by your side..."

"I could say the same thing about you," chuckled Efrin, smiling as he held her closer.

Miro had easily retorted to Kaida's inquiry, remembering to shout over the stampede. Kaida didn't know whether to sigh in relief or feel a start worrying about the thesis and its presentation. As she ran, the girl could feel that Miro's place was slowing so she could more easily keep with his stride. The dark haired girl noticed that the stairway was empty, enough so that they weren't filled with a bustling crowd that would soon form. Her mind ran back in time for a few moments. How did she even meet Miro to begin with? She didn't bother to keep tabs on things of such strange value. It couldn't have been more than a few weeks since she had met Miro, though she did see him every so often during the half a year that she had been in Templar. She didn't get close to him. It was too hard.

Most people wondered why that was, but Kaida was a different kind of person. She was raised to be the ideal doctor by her parents. No matter what, the girl was destined to heal others, and she did enjoy it...but it had hurt her somewhere along the line. Kaida didn't have relations. Not close ones. She couldn't afford to. That would have meant hesitation when treating, favoring one life above another. The girl didn't think she could do that. How was it then, that Miro had managed to approach? Kaida had been harsh on those that tried to get too close. It wasn't hard to start spewing her less-than-commonly used words to veer someone away from her. That was the reason why most people didn't like her. Miro had simply...come up one day, and the two remained distant acquaintances since then. Kaida hadn't tried to get any closer to him.

That was probably why she didn't know what her body was going through. Her heart was beating fast, her face was hitting high temperatures, and she worried that her systems were up for another crash. That would send her to the hospital for a reason that wasn't presenting the thesis. Suddenly, her mind was shot back to reality as Miro spoke to her once again, and she realized how firm his grip must have been on her if he could lead her around so easily. 'He possesses a surprisingly large amount of strength...' her thoughts ran amok. She didn't even realize that she hadn't answered his inquiry at all. It was only when he spoke again did Kaida snap out of her daze.

"I somehow doubt such a course of action will be necessary," she muttered softly, uncertain of whether Miro had caught it or not. Her dark hair trailed lightly behind her as she gave Miro a quizzical look. Brain problems? Well...she supposed a concussion might have been possible. The youth suddenly realized how warm her face was and how close they were getting to her dorm. And then her mind suddenly snapped a memory into place. Kaida's face paled and her expression changed into one that was laced with traces of complete and utter horror. Her bed was covered in...Kaida suddenly had another reason not to go to her dorm. She suddenly stumbled a bit, but managed to keep running and regained her balance before she could fall forward on her face.

"Th-this is quite far enough!" the girl exclaimed while starting to pull away. Her image would probably be ruined if Miro saw those. Her pink eyes started to regain their former composure as she expected Miro to turn. Her room was clean, true, but...they Kaida simply didn't want anyone to see the one thing she dared not tell anyone about. Not even her parents had gotten hold of that particular piece of information. She hadn't started collecting until after she started to attend Templaria, and the one she'd kept at home for her entire life had been well hidden. Kaida felt a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. If Miro found out, he wasn't likely to tell anyone, but then things might get awkward around the boy, and while that normally wouldn't have been any problem for the doctor, she somehow felt as though Miro was...different. Kaida didn't want him to feel strange around her, nor did she want the other way to be true. Her heart sped up again and she suddenly felt as though she was lightheaded. Kaida wondered whether there were certain medical conditions that were only effective around certain people...

Miro had barely let go of the girl when the unthinkable happened, again. Almost immediately, Kaida managed to trip over her own feet and smash into the ground, face-first, with a tremendous crash. She quickly peeled herself off the floor and started to blabber a string of words that made no coherent sense to him. Miro simply smiled weakly at the girl. This was what was so interesting about Kaida. She was just so... different. She just had that certain vibe that differentiated herself from anybody he knew. Even different from Efrin, the boy he felt in his gut was bound to do something big.

"T-this is quite far enough!" Kaida shouted. Miro noticed that she was in a rather silly position as she seemed to be crawling away from him, but Miro simply walked up to her, grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet with an upward thrust. He looked straight into her vividly pink eyes: they still seemed dazed and lazy, not focused or intense like the usual Kaida.

"Look, Kaida. You obviously can't think clearly right now, and it's all due to you staying up so late at night," Miro started, placing both his hands on her shoulders. He gave her a stern look before going on.

"I know you're a doctor and all, but right now, you don't know what's good for yourself. Why can't you see that? You need sleep." Miro shook her a little, as if to rub in his words further. Then again, seeing that it was Kaida he was talking to, he doubted if anything he was saying was getting to her head. She could be incredibly stubborn sometimes. And now, she was acting incredibly strange, as if renewed with a vigor that resisted the return to her own room. Miro simply sighed.

"Aghh... fine. Since you seem so intent on running away from your own room, then you'll come to mine instead," Miro breathed, turning away. "You can rest in my bed there. But you have to promise to sleep. I'm not letting you go until you do."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bottom half of the school was engulfed in the usual chaos and ruckus of break time. Filled with magical fireballs and flying weapons, the main hall was rife with students picking a fight, and generally was just not a safe place to be in Templar. The main hall was also a breeding place for gangs, certain groups of students that preyed on the weaker and less fortunate, or simply those that they didn't like. The most prominent of these gangs was that of Polo's: the same angry student that still boiled in his hatred of the Kaida girl ever since his public embarrassment in the classroom. Harboring a deep hate for the girl, Polo had been searching for Kaida ever since yesterday. But, he had no success. Today and for now, his gang was disbanded for the time being, and it was only him and his loyal henchman at his side. The two were aimlessly wandering the dorm halls at the time, after having returned to their rooms for private reasons. Suddenly, the henchman caught a glimpse of a sight that he thought would definitely intrigue his "master."
"Huh! Polo! Look there!" he whispered, tugging at Polo's non-existent sleeves of his torn shirt. Instead, all he managed to do was poke Polo's muscular side. He was responded with a painful slap to the hand and a guttural snarl.
"Shut up, Gemmlin. I have eyes, you know." he growled. Gemmlin shuddered and cringed in shame, for he never found it pleasant to anger his "master." After Polo stopped glaring at his henchman, he finally turned his gaze to where Gemmlin was so eagerly pointing too. And, he was intrigued. There, stood the center of all his hatred, that girl, Kaida. But she was close to another student, who he recognized immediately as Miro. At the sight of Miro, Polo felt a tiny shiver of fear tingle down his spine, but his feelings of fear were quickly extinguished as he turned his gaze back to Kaida.
"AHA! KAIDA!" Polo roared, stomping his foot into the ground. With his extraordinary body weight, the entire floor shook from the impact.
"You're going to pay for what you did to me....!"
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Fri Aug 21, 2009 12:43 am
It was getting difficult to concentrate, and Kaida had no idea why. Usually her lack of sleep meant "oh, great, I'll just sleep in class" but this was out of the ordinary. Even for a crash, the girl was rarely dazed for more than a few moments when it wasn't anything serious. She was anything but sleepy, actually. The girl didn't get a chance to scramble back to her normal tall and falsely proud position before Miro pulled her up. She would have said something, but then his hands were on her shoulders and the boy actually managed to pull off the look she hated being caught under. The one that she was used to giving. The girl remained silent as Miro lectured her on personal health, only half registering what he was saying.
Sure, she knew what was good for her. The right amount of potassium (too much would make her muscles tighten), a sufficient amount of rest, a balanced diet, and under extreme circumstances, a constant stream of nutrients being injected into her via IV. She knew that, but by the time that Kaida was old enough to legally operate on patients (at the moment she was technically volunteering at the ICU and spending an abnormal amount of time in the cardiothoracic surgery department) her mother was going to be too old to do that work anymore. No, worse. Her mother would probably be dead. The girl held that thought in her head, not really needing Miro to ask anything about that. He finished his little lesson by shaking her lightly. Not hard enough to do anything like rattle her brain, but enough so that it was noticeable. Kaida promptly tightened her neck muscles to keep her head from bobbing too much.
It was times like then that Kaida wished she could have just broken down and just timidly ask if Miro would release her shoulders, but the girl's mask was too proud for that. She was programmed too efficiently to let that side of her show again. Instead, the dark-haired girl brought her hands up and removed Miro's hands from her shoulders with a light press away from her as he offered to let her stay in his room. Well...actually, it was less of an offer more of a statement. The girl raised an eyebrow at him lightly.
"I appreciate your concern, but regardless of what you might believe, apart from slight disorientation, I feel no different than I have in the past three months," that was a little bit of a white lie. True, that he would have let her stay in his room would have meant she had safety for a moment, and a nap was surely enticing...but Kaida somehow doubted that things would have gone well in that scenario. Too many people and too many rumors. Before she could give Miro a proper response to try and convince him that she didn't need more rest, someone's god decided to spit on her. It certainly wasn't hers anymore. She didn't recognize the voice, but it was certainly laced with anger. The stamp of the foot was just an added bonus to Kaida's soon-to-be-formed migraine.
"Must everyone want something from me?" she muttered softly to herself before turning to face the source of the sound. It was the boy from the day before. The one who she hadn't had a chance to heal before he'd run off. And he was mad at her?! It wasn't exactly her fault that he hadn't had the brains to let the healer heal his face. Kaida just barely held back a growl and a roll of the eyes as she crossed her arms. Pay for what she did? Really? Irritation mounted up in Kaida's chest, but she let none of it show on her face apart from her slightly narrowed eyes. She had the feeling that the boy wasn't about to let things go. "The words of a vengeful warrior...of course..." Kaida exhaled softly and glanced to Miro, directing her next words to him. "I beg your pardon, it seems I have a previous engagement."
And then she took a few bold steps forward, ignoring her light-headed feeling. Kaida had a strange feeling. Under normal circumstances, she would have done the smart thing and backed down, but something inside her told her that she didn't want to be seen as weak at that moment. That if she showed any form of weakness, she would lose more than just her pride. She kept her proud and chilly composure as soon as it returned to her. "Have at me then, humbled knight. It is unsightly for the victor of the previous battle to strike first." Kaida tried to provoke an attack, knowing that she was better at defending than striking. Her muscles remained relaxed and ready to spring to action at any given moment. She could feel the tension mounting, and her heart started beating fast once again. Her senses sharpened, her temperature shot up three degrees, instinct reared back and tried to take over her body. Kaida knew what it was. She was about to have another adrenaline rush. Joy oh joy. Another crash was practically being served to her on a silver platter.
OOC: Kudo enters at last! (I hate this character, besides the reasons it has Die-sue written all over it, at least it's completely set up) also keep in mind he doesn't go to the school like everyone else
IC:
It was past noon now, a mysterious black clothed figure looked at nearby school from above on a hill."Hmph, that's most likely where I'd be now if I stuck with them." The figure was none other than Kudo Shinjiro, a mere teenager who looked 16 at best. He had gained a sword somehow, stolen most likely from a shop. By now he had a year of unofficial experience with it, but having had used it in the realistic conditions of the wilderness made him better than what any school would teach. True experience gave him the necessary knowledge. His growth was incredible, he even gained a mastery of dark arts, pretty much a genius in a way.
But today felt different, today he felt like visiting this school. He had heard of people such as bullies who used crude methods to mug students and such, and others who excelled during their classes and were truly geniuses. Curiosity stayed in his mind, the want to experience something new. So he went onward and inside until he was halted by a student in a rather rude manner."Hey, I've never seen you around here before punk, so give me whatever money you got before I wipe the floor with you."
Kudo gave a small smile, even in the wilderness it was rather rare to be actually challenged to a fight of any sort, it was just sort of an unwritten code. You meet a stranger, you either socialize a bit, trade materials, or ignore each other and move on but almost never fight."Didn't you here me?" the bully took out a knife now, "Give me your damn money!" At this point Kudo took out Nandaiyo, his sword, which was hidden in his jacket and told the bully, "Fool, didn't they teach you any sort of spells in this school? Perhaps one to know some general status of your opponent before you actually initiate combat? What's more, shouldn't you be in class now?" The bully was slightly frightened at the look of how fast the sword was drawn out, it didn't seem like much but when the blade's tip was pointed at his face, he noticed otherwise. "Uhh...they taught us one, but it only shows us a general meter for how strong the opponent is and tends to be very inaccurate." Kudo was displeased, he swung the sword and knocked the knife out of the bully's hand, "You're pathetically off guard, I demand you use that spell, NOW" he inched the sword closer to the bully's face letting him know that he was in no position to try anything sudden.
"Holy crap! Isn't it illegal for students to have weapons in the hallways like this? But...if you insist..." he started casting the spell. Meanwhile Kudo walked, sword still facing the bully, and picked up the knife and put it into one of his pockets.
The bully managed to cast the spell, but rather poorly. He even explained it improperly earlier for the spell does not show the user a meter of their opponent (OOC: if it did, it'd be like a poorly planned RPG, back to IC:) but allows the user to temporarily see the victim's muscle tension in colors on the same scale as light wave-lengths, ultra-violet being the strongest.
"All I see is purple from your body, dunno what that means" At this point, Kudo moved the sword into his other hand and punched the bully smack in the face with his dominant hand. "You call yourself a bully? Go reform and think about your life, try doing something useful instead of going after people way out of your league. Perhaps it will be easier without this knife." Kudo hid his sword again and walked away from the (unconscious, OOC: anger and the energy buildup in Kudo's arm led to that force, it'd be a miracle if the bully DIDN'T suffer some sort of problem, back to IC:) bully in search of a library, such a spell as being able to scan the enemy should have been common knowledge and he had to learn it. After finding a map he went directly towards it, but heard some commotion on the way. It was no wonder he was stopped so quickly, these stupid guys were everywhere in the school.
OOC: there, this basically reassures, yes there is magic in this RP, and should not be spammed for it gets retarded, like this post. Remember Kudo wasn't supposed to come in for a while so for now being unbelievably strong compared to everyone is nothing since he's getting into no real fights and NOR WILL HE until everything has been established and we come to the point ready for his pre-scripted appearance. I take it NPCing the bully is fine since the school seems to have a good portion of em anyway. Also keep in mind this post is only to add him to the scene temporarily and will be removed until further notice (I'll do a purely OOC post) also keep in mind, regardless that violet is high up, and ultraviolet is said to the be the highest, as it turns out, obviously not everything can be properly scanned, the bully wasn't kidding when he said "very inaccurate" as an example, Sige will not show any light wave-length at all. So don't assume this violet means much. (except for that punch) Now then, everyone else continue.
OOC: Kudo will only involve himself with the others ONCE the entire party has been formed. The Shade story will have been developed more thoroughly by then.
Polo grinned sickeningly. She was giving him the first blow? He didn't understand the complexity of her words, but he made out that part well enough to comprehend. Roaring, he brandished the crude iron sword he carefully "concealed" on his back, pointing it threateningly at the pink-eyed girl. She continued to stare at him in that freaky weird way, not making a single movement. So, she really was serious about that. Either, she was incredibly stupid, or trying to act brave. Polo knew only too well, that bravery and heroism only ended up getting you hurt in Templar. It was a dark place: purity and goodness could not hope to survive in such a primal and unsophisticated locale. Here, you had to bully the bullies, just to stay alive.
"You say that now, Kaida! SAY IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!" He screamed, launching himself into Kaida, his sword preceding him. With this kind of advantage, she wouldn't be able to avoid this blow. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as he hurtled towards his victim. The blade of his sword drew closer to her flesh, eager to penetrate the feeble layers of her lab coat and plunging into her body. He was moments away from impact, when suddenly, a flash of metal flew through the air. Something collided into the point of his sword, driving it away from Kaida and into the nearby wall. The dorm halls were filled with a scream. A distraught-looking girl burst out of the door of the room Polo had just blown through: she looked ready to kill someone, but after a mere glimpse of the boy, the fury quickly dissipated from her features and she slowly inched back into her room. An insane expression made its way onto Polo's face as he vainly tried to expunge his blade. His sword seemed glued into the wall. W-what. The. Hell...?!? he spluttered, glaring at Kaida. She hadn't moved an inch, but there was that boy right next to her. Miro. He was holding that spear he always carried around in a readied manner. His face was slightly contorted in a mix of anger and seriousness. The black-haired boy raised his arm, and opened his palm towards him. Immediately, Polo knew what was going to happen. His face turned to that of sheer panic. Slowly, but subtly, Miro's lips made out a single word.
"Maelstrom."
Suddenly, the halls were filled with the roar of wind. A massive gust exploded throughout the dorms, picking up random roaches and debris and carelessly snatching them up in its arms. Miro appeared totally unaffected, standing his ground as the area around him was seemed to be torn to shreds from the fury of his spell. Polo felt his entire body being crushed by the blasts of wind coming from every side, treating him as if he were but a mere toy. It was only moments before the boy had reached his limit. The grip on his sword immediately slackened. His eyes rolled into their sockets. Having fallen unconscious from the sheer magnitude of the attack, Polo fell onto the ground with a sound thump and was silent. Gremmlin, the little pip-eyed mongrel who had witnessed the entire event, quickly took a look at Miro, then hurried away, as if his very life depended on it. This was the outcome of Miro's most powerful spell he knew. He had always been proficient in the wind arts ever since he was little. Maybe he had an inborn affinity for it? Miro never truly knew that answer. He took a quick look around, and noticed that the entire dorm hall was in ruins. Almost all the wallpaper had been torn off from the gusts, random remains of roaches were splattered across the wall, and portions of the carpet were coming off the very floor. There was only a small 'hmph' from Miro, as he turned to Kaida, with a look of annoyance spread across his features.
"What the hell were you doing back there!?" he shouted, looking straight into her eyes. Little did he know, but the same girl from the battle was watching the scene unfolding before her intently. "He seriously could have killed you! Don't you know him?" Miro seemed exasperated. He wanted his words to bore themselves into her head, not bounce off like they normally did. She seemed rather eager to fight Polo, for reasons unknown to him. Couldn't she see that she wasn't in any condition to take on any of this? She could hardly stand up, as she was.
"You were THIS close," Miro made a gesture with his fingers to exemplify, "from getting hit by that sword. Haven't you thought of what would happen if you actually got injured that badly?" Miro started to raise his voice, much to the surprise of the girl in the corner. She shirked back a little into the confines of her own room, surprised by the outburst.
"M-maybe... I'm overreacting." Miro breathed, slowly turning his gaze away from her. "I-I don't know why I did that... It's just that... I feel obligated in some way to protect you. You just look so... helpless, sometimes." Miro scratched the back of his head nervously. A little bit of heat made its way to his cheeks, and Miro took notice of his own embarrassment. Suddenly, his face grew dark and menacing.
"...You probably think I'm stupid right now. I probably am, too... Well, listen to this. Go do whatever you want. Do what you think is right. I-I don't care anymore."
He only gave a quick glance back toward the pink-eyed girl before turning away and walking towards his dorm room, no longer expecting for her to follow. But as he walked away, he chest felt holllow.
OOC:
NOTE: Yes, your character should say the name of their attack if they use any sort of special ability, most of the time.
Kaida stayed lax, even as Polo gave her that look of sickening satisfaction. She restrained the urge to go and try pulling off a "Auntie Ko" moment despite her drastically crippled stamina. She let no indication of her irritation shine through her face as the boy unsheathed his blade. Kaida swore mentally to herself. She hadn't bothered to check for weapons on the boy. That was going to make her fight a lot harder than she really wanted it to be. He pointed the blade at her, and Kaida let her muscles tense, but only slightly. Not enough so that she might completely tighten and be too stiff to defend herself. And then, not a moment too soon, the girl tensed a little more as the boy started lunging. He was getting closer with that badly-made, but still-dangerous blade. Kaida remained unmoving, keeping her cool. Most people would have panicked and started blocking as soon as the charge registered in their head, but that wouldn't minimize the damage done. There was that ideal moment when all was just a blue blur in Kaida's head. That was the ideal moment to defend. Fractions of a second before she would have to snap up...Kaida tensed and started moving her legs. Three centimeters was her average shift in footing, but in her current condition, the girl couldn't hold herself up after impact with just that small base. She set her stance mentally to seven, but before she could do it, there was a clash of metal on metal and Kaida was suddenly no longer the one defending her own body from the blade. It was Miro. She shot him a look that let the slightest hints of emotion shine through the cracks in her metaphorical mask. A turmoil of mixed feelings, but a large portion of it was hurt and...relief.
It seemed that Miro hadn't noticed the look as he instantly raised his hand and with his open palm, Kaida already predicted what was going to happen. She curled a little into a defensive position, shielding her most important vital areas from flying debris. She didn't want to suffer any real injury. Her eyes squeezed shut just as that single word escaped from Miro's lips. Kaida braced herself and kept her stance so that she could remain anchored to the floor. No sooner had her muscles tensed than did the roar of wind suddenly fill her ears. The wind continued for several moments, and when it finally stopped, Kaida allowed her stance to fall as magic shot through her eyes in an instant. The girl scanned the unconscious boy, ignoring his fleeing lackey. The one on the floor didn't seem to be physically injured enough to cause and damage that needed any immediate treatment. A thump of relief sounded in Kaida's heart, but it didn't get to live for long, for Miro was on her in an instant. Kaida didn't even have time to regain her composure, and she tried to shrink back a bit from the boy. She couldn't speak for shock and injured pride had captured her tongue and held it prisoner for a moment.
He was...angry with her, and Kaida didn't understand why. She had simply done what would have been the most logical course of action. Prove herself the dominant force between herself and Polo--or perhaps even throw the fight so that Polo might manage to injure her to a certain extent so that he wouldn't bother to attack her again. The girl hadn't thought that Miro would even care to the point of defending her. Miro snapped that she might have been killed, and Kaida was certain that to his eyes, it might have seemed like that. Even to her own perception of battle, every attack thrown at her that wasn't dodged was a brush with death. After all, the girl had to wait until the moment just before impact to throw the weapon away from her to keep any physical damage away from her body. In some cases, there was no choice but to allow a blade to graze her flesh. Kaida could vaguely understand why Miro had thought she was doing a dangerous dance with death.
And then he was done with it all, but his face was serious. Kaida felt something wrench in her chest, and it was almost physically painful though it wasn't a physical motion. Her body language spoke nothing of her emotions, of that strange pain running her through worse than any blade would have. The girl was completely stunned, unaware of her surroundings as she stared after Miro for a moment. What had she done that was so horribly wrong? Fighting people wasn't that hard. Especially not with her conservative way of battle...so why was Miro so frustratingly irritated with her. The thoughts wreaked havoc on Kaida's mind, and suddenly, she opened her mouth and piped up at him. The way that she normally couldn't bring herself to do in public places.
"Do you even know what you're talking about?!" the words tumbled out of her mouth before she could stop them, and the rest were coming up fast after. Kaida raised her voice, completely oblivious to the open door. Oblivious to the fact that she was probably just fueling the rumors she didn't want to listen to. She took a few fast steps towards the boy, her eyes flashing dangerously, her facade of cool levelheadedness completely vanquished from her being for the moment. She stopped a few paces back from the boy. "Getting hurt is natural. You wouldn't believe how many scars I have from learning how to fight to begin with, but did you bother to think that maybe it's better to take a little injury in this situation?!" and now her voice was raising as well, more than anyone she knew had likely ever heard it. She clenched her fists in frustration. "People like him have connections. They can find information and get other people hurt. People that haven't done anything to involve themselves. Letting them win once is easier than having them target weak points that can't be protected every hour of the day. I've learned how to deal with physical pain, but my patients haven't!"
Only after she finished her tirade did Kaida realize what she had just done, but it was too late to back down at that point.
PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Mon Aug 24, 2009 8:52 pm
Miro stopped. He stood there for a moment, before turning to face Kaida, his face a mix of concern and anger.
"Do you even know him?" He threw a finger at the motionless body lying against the wall. "He won't stop until he's got some mark of his on you, or he even kills you! But he's afraid of me. If he knows I'm the one protecting you-" Miro stuttered in a way that was very unlike himself. He usually never felt this way around anyone, even around authority figures.
"H-he won't try to hurt you anymore." His face was solemn, as he gazed directly into her bright, pink eyes. "I don't want to see you hurt, Kaida." At that moment, Miro felt a rush of emotions that he'd never felt overcome his body. He rubbed the palm of his hand into his face, his mind cloudy with confusion. What the hell is this...? As he stared into those eyes, Miro swore he could find hints of emotion in there somewhere, something he'd never see Kaida do. He felt the blood rush to his face, turning it a bright red. Noticing the unusual fuzziness that had crept up to his cheeks, Miro quickly turned the opposite way, slightly embarrassed. He'd never acted this way in front of anyone of the opposite gender. Why would he feeling this way towards Kaida? Could that mean- No! You two are just friends! Friends only protect each other!His mind screamed out at him, his consciousness's imaginary hands beating at his skull. But, right now, he didn't want to listen to the little voice inside his head. Miro calmly flicked his hair out of his forehead and threw Kaida a gentle smile.
"Now go get some sleep. You're going to thank me later for it, anyway." Miro ended his words with that and started towards his room. "...And if you don't mind it, my room's open." He hid the blush on his face before walking off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

His opponent let loose a scream of agony before falling to the ground, defeated. The boy's hair was charred black and stood up straight in long, messy spikes. Ions crackled in the dry air. The long, metal chain coiled around itself as it too fell to the floor, no longer charged with the normally lethal amounts of electricity. The chain led back to its owner, a slim, exotic looking boy with glasses that were too big for his face. Batou straightened his glasses, twirling his weapon before he shot a threatening glance to the rest of the gang. While they were armed with knives and other deadly objects, and outnumbered him 10-to-1, they all knew they stood no chance against the might of magic. One of them stepped backward in fright, before the others followed in suit, and in moments the entire gang had fled before him. Batou sighed, letting his body rest against the walls of the main hall. This was the third time he'd had ties with the Polo gang, today. He was beginning to wonder if he'd done anything to anger them, because they were no longer seemed like random encounters... he stretched his palm before him and focused his mind, like his teacher had taught him. Suddenly, electricity burst from his fingertips and danced around his hand, like rogue specks of light. Batou smiled to himself. His powers weren't waning or decreasing in strength at all, which was a good sign. If the time ever called for it, he would still be able to fight. Quickly, he slipped the chain he used as a weapon into one of the random pockets in his vest, and stood up. His ears picked up the sound of countless pattering footsteps down the hallway. Thanks to the poor lighting, he couldn't see a damn thing.

"More of them...?" Batou whispered to himself. He could only fend off a few people at a time... but according to the number of feet coming for him, there were about twenty of them out for his blood. It didn't take him a heartbeat's time to realize he stood no chance against those odds. Swiftly, his feet making no noise at all, Batou swept himself down the hallway, the opposite direction of the incoming gang. Thankfully, he didn't hear them pick up speed: they hadn't noticed him yet. After making mental maps of the entire school, Batou knew he didn't have much more to go before he ran into a dead end. His mind racing, he quickly darted into the nearest classroom. Unfortunately, he didn't account for any random passerby that might get into his way, and that minor miscalculation-

Batou let out a small 'oof!' as he felt himself smash into someone, rather hard. The force of it sent the other person reeling to the floor, while Batou managed to keep his footing, albeit stunned.

"Wh-what the hell?" The student shouted, coughing a little before quickly standing up. Batou didn't know it, but his name was Efrin. He hadn't seen this boy ever since he'd been at Templar Academy: that must have meant he was new here. That also meant he might be slightly volatile due to the change in surroundings...

"M-my... deepest apologies..." Batou breathed, letting out a hand. He intended it for a friendly handshake, but apparently the other boy didn't immediately understand what was going on.

"...A sorry would have been good enough, and why are you sticking your hand out like that...?" The student asked, looking quizzically at Batou's outstretched hand, which was beckoning for a form of apology.

"Oh, oh..." Batou quickly felt incredibly embarrassed. Suddenly, a white-haired girl emerged from the doorway, accompanying the brunette student he collided into earlier. Batou felt a small shiver tremble down his back. He never had much experience or skill with talking to girls. He couldn't manage to make eye contact with that girl, so he quickly averted his gaze to the boy. But then, he noticed the two were holding hands, which only made him feel more nervous... sweat dripped copiously down his forehead. At this rate, he would be drenched in a matter of minutes, and it shouldn't be long until the gang-

"HEY! YOU THERE!" Batou pivoted himself towards the source of the noise, which happened to be the rest of the infamous Polo gang... but although it seemed to be the rest of its members, it seemed to be lacking its leader... the terrifying Polo himself. Nevertheless, twenty or so armed students was nothing to take lightly.

"Nobody, and I mean nobody, messes with the Polo gang without a mark!" One of them stepped forward, which Batou assumed was the temporary leader. The lack of a true leader would make them easier to manage... but... even Batou doubted he could take this many. His feet shifted nervously. Slowly, he reached into his jacket, and pulled out the long, metallic chain he always used for combat. It twinkled as it dropped to the floor.

"Hey, you." Suddenly, Batou felt a hand on his shoulder. "If these guys are after you, then you're not fighting them alone. Maybe after we're done with them, we can introduce each other?" The other student seemed oddly happy and chirpy, even though he was probably risking his life and health for someone he didn't even know... Batou had no choice but to nod nervously.

"You have my strength as well," the white-haired maiden spoke, casting him a gaze that sent chills down Batou's spine. He quickly looked towards the huge mass of students that was making their way towards them like a charge of angry buffalo. Batou quickly searched for the weakest one: it was the black-haired brute somewhere in the middle of the group, who seemed to be of less strength than the others. Batou focused intently: the chain suddenly crackled, charged with electricity. Without a moment's notice, he flung the other end towards the boy's face: it flew straight and true, smashing into student and delivering a debilitating surge of energy to his nerves. He dropped to the floor, unconscious. Batou didn't have time to gloat over his accomplishment, as he soon found a fist flying towards his face. He shifted his body to the side, making it miss by mere inches. He flicked his wrist, causing the taut chain to whip around the student's arm, coiling around it like a snake. Batou sent the electricity flying through the metal, and then his opponent was defeated. Batou shot a glance to his allies to check on their progress: the brunette he had befriended moments ago was hacking away at a gang member with inordinate skill with an enormous sword. The white-haired girl, on the other hand, was firing radiant spears of light into the crowd, impaling and incapacitating opponents. A blade suddenly made its way dangerously near Batou's head: he swiftly dodged, and twisted the chain around it. A small shock through the two channels of conductive metal was more than enough to defeat that aggressor. Even though he risked getting seriously injured, Batou didn't mind, because now he was no longer fighting alone.

It was only minutes before Batou, the brunette, and the white-haired girl had dealt with the rest of Polo's gang, the very few that were left having left the scene of the battle. Batou, with breaths coming deep and ragged, slumped himself against the wall, utterly exhausted. He'd never fought that many enemies before, and he would have most certainly lost had it not been for the help of his allies.

"Oh, hey, you! I never got your name." Suddenly, the brunette popped up in front of Batou's face, surprising him a little. He quickly searched his mind for the answer, which really took him a lot longer than he should have.

"Uh.. uh... it's Batou... Batou Kaishin."

"Well, Batou, it's nice to meet you." The boy grabbed his hand and shook it vigorously. Batou wondered how the other managed to put so much energy into such an action, he was still breathing heavily as well. "And Batou, this is Serra. Serra Novelia." He let an outstretched hand towards the exceptionally pretty white-haired girl, who smiled and took the brunette's hand.

"I'm Efrin. Efrin Resolu."

PostSubject: Re: THE CHRONICLES OF TEMPLARIA - ADVENT OF DARKNESS   Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:21 pm

The two could have stood bickering for a while, really. Kaida had a rather large vault of insults and counterpoints that could have been thrown back and forth, and pretty much everyone knew it (even if they didn't understand it). Her eyes flickered in and out of their normal, hardened expression, every so often flashing injured pride and hidden weakness. Every so often revealing what Kaida didn't want revealed. She forced herself to remain silent, her tongue still at the ready, her mind still sharp to find flaws in the boy's argument. 'Bite your words and retaliate...' the girl thought while still keeping her eyes fixed on Miro when he suddenly interrupted his own speech with a...stutter? Kaida was taken aback, but tried hard not tl let it show on her face.

Miro...stuttering? That didn't happen on a normal basis, and despite the fact that Kaida had known him only for a short period of time...she knew that. Her pride settled down for a moment as Miro's voice returned to a calmer tone. He spoke again. She stood stunned, staring with her unnatural eyes at the boy. She didn't understand the concept of...concern. Not when it revolved around her. Not when her family was so broken...not when she was so detached from herself. Kaida found herself less-than-capable of coming up with a retort for a moment.

Just as well too, for it seemed as though Miro might not have even heard it. The boy looked distracted and troubled, and his face started fading to a deeper shade of Kaida's eye color. The girl resisted the urge to try and check the boy's temperature as he turned away. Perhaps it was just hormones raging, though...she'd never known Miro to fall prey to such primal things. The silence reigned for a few moments longer before Miro seemed to regain himself, telling her to sleep...again. But...this time he glanced back at her and gave her a smile.

For the sakes of seven different greater beings, Kaida couldn't understand why.

The boy turned away just as quickly as he had glanced back and Kaida cocked her head slightly to the side in confusion, but found that her aggravation had ebbed away. She turned on her heel, knelt beside the unconscious boy, and despite her logical side telling her that what she was doing was a bad idea, she healed him temporarily, but didn't bother to wave ammonia under his nose to wake him. Uttering a quick apology to the unconscious body (though if he could hear her was highly doubtful), Kaida moved at a brisk and slightly-too-eager pace to catch up with Miro, completely unaware of the bystander that had just watched most of--if not the entire ordeal with curious eyes.

"I...suppose resting before presenting the radius thesis would only serve to be beneficial..." she admitted, abandoning the false pride that she normally would have put into her words and actions. She shot him only the slightest hints of the first, genuine smile that she'd made since...well, beyond her range of memory. For the first time since receiving that hardened shell, Kaida started to soften. Not even enough for her to notice that she was softening. "Should it neglect to trouble you, perhaps I might trust you to ensure that I awaken with a sufficient amount of time to return to class?" and she was back to normal again. Vaguely.

But at that moment, normal didn't feel normal anymore.

As Miro walked, he felt a familiar presence creep up behind him. Already knowing who it was, he failed to suppress a smile as he turned himself around. As he had fully expected, Kaida was directly behind him. "Should it neglect to trouble you, perhaps I might trust you to ensure that I awaken with a sufficient amount of time to return to class?" She asked, in a very much un-Kaida manner. Moments before, she was so full of energy and retaliated with force against everything he said, but now, he could sense a slight tinge of timidity hidden in her words. Still, it made her seem so many times cuter... Wait a minute, what the hell am I thinking about?! He found himself staring at her, and in response his conscience mentally slapped him across the face. The guilt washed over him, but what surprised him was that he didn't care anymore. Did he really feel this way towards Kaida? In his mind, the lines between friend and... the other... were becoming blurrier by the second. Maybe he was going insane... suddenly, the sight of those vivid, pink eyes brought him back to attention.

"O-oh," he stuttered, redness flushing across his face once again. "Of course. I mean, I'm fine with it. But do you really feel okay about me watching over you... while you sleep? This is me we are talking about..." Miro forced a tight grin as he nervously scratched the back of his head. Damn, why was it becoming so hard to talk to Kaida? You two are just friends... he repeated to himself, over and over again. But they were simply becoming mere words as the seconds ticked by, no longer having meaning.

"K-Kaida?" He asked. "If it isn't too much to ask from you..." At that moment, the entire world seemed to freeze.

"What do you think of me?"

OOC: Brain-fart.
